Default Re: insulin resistance and newbie ... sorta

hi and welcome Kimee!!! I'm so happy you found ADBB and are on the plan. It sounds like you have had your hands full the past few years but all this can be changed around and a healthier you can come out of it.

There is a diabetic thread here you might want to post on -- Diabetes & Atkins Low Carb Living - Atkins Diet; there is also a century club where they do a morning roll call to keep everyone on track.

I wish you much luck -- I am trying desperately to get off the diabetic meds I was put on along with blood pressure, cholesterol and high trigliceride medicine that at the time it seemed easier to take a pill to "get over it".....little did I know that didn't work. Now a few years older and wiser I'm trying to change my health to make the rest of my life fall in place.

If you need anything please ask -- we are all here to support each other. Start exercising today - go for a walk, climb stairs, dance around the living room -- whatever you can do -- do it! Drink plenty of water (at least 64 ounces of pure water daily) and eat only foods on the acceptable food list. Good luck to you!!

Here are links to help refresh your memory and for some really great recipe sites!

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t --- start today!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water

Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.
