If nothing else, up your complex carbs (less impact on blood sugar; slower to break down and enter your system) proportionately with other increased intakes (protein, oils & fats, fiber, and even alcohol...). Avoid simple sugars, as in pasta, many drinks, bread and try to break your meals into more smaller rather than few but larger eating sessions to lessen the likelihood of swings you wish to avoid as you increase your overall intake.
