Exercise is mandatory on Atkins and you should choose a form of exercise you like and can stick to. Exercising heavier may cause a temporary increase in your weight, as your muscles are retaining water in order to recover. In time you might also gain a few pounds of muscle, which will occupy less volume than the same pounds of fat. Also remember that the purpose here is not losing weight, but losing inches (which is what exercise will usually help you achieve faster than diet alone), and "weight loss" is not the only principle behind Atkins---good health, disease prevention and weight maintenance are equally important.

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"
