i've spoken with a couple of endocrinologists (diabetologists to boot!) and several cardiologists. They're quite open to Atkins and even advocate a low carb diet rather than a high carb one. There are a bunch of problems with mainstream medicine though and alot of docs (here in the US) won't "come out of the closet" and proclaim they are Atkineers or suggest low carb diets for their patients...the malpractice stakes are too high here in the States for most docs to openly support the low carb WOE.
