Hi imagood1! I am on day 3 and no flu....but I confess to drinking coffee. I am bad I know. I only quit smoking a few months ago and cutting out coffee too just freaked me out. Except for that I am cheat free and very determined. This is my second time around... I did low-carb 7 years ago and it was very successful! Good luck and I know you will succeed in your goals!

On July 4th this year I quit smoking 2 years ago....my husband had triple bypass the year before and I had made several changes -decaf coffee was the biggest for me. That same year I went to a nutritionist and lot 20 pounds but it was hard to stick to her rules and I slipped - then earlier last year I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I already was taking meds for high blood pressure, triglicerides and cholesterol...so the diabetes just didn't set well with me. I tried the nutritionist again but I spent the entire day figuring out what to eat in the next 2 - 3 hour span ---- so I quit again. Right before Christmas I found this website and started lurking around....on the 5th of January I made the decision to start and really make it work for me. I still drink coffee --- but instead of 2 pots (decaf remember) a day I drink about 3 - 4 cups....a couple in the morning and maybe a couple at night....but I make sure I drink a lot of water during the day. In the first 2 weeks I lost 17 pounds and am not sure if I've lost any weight this week --- but I'm hopeful. I'm going through the end of the month with induction then I'll continue with OWL. Good luck with your journey -- I'll keep an eye out and check in with you!! Carole

Good evening to anyone who might come upon this post. Today was my 3rd week of Atkins and as of this morning I am down 17 pounds. I now weigh what I weighed 9 years ago when I went into the hospital to have an ovary & fallopean tube removed. I was appalled that morning when I had to weigh and I weighed 200 pounds.....but it's amazing how 9 years and 17 pounds can make you hopeful and happy that those 17 pounds are gone. I feel I'm back to square one - dh and I were married 9 years ago in June and my surgery was in November of that year so I have now lost my "happily married" weight and now I can loose the "unhappily married" weight I gained with my other 2 marriages....LOL! Hey, you have to make a joke of it - if I didn't I'd cry! But I disgress ---- I am back where I was 9 years ago and now I can continue to loose the weight that is literally making me sick. Nine years ago I didn't have high blood pressure, high triglicerides, type 2 diabetes or because of the other problems, a higher risk of heart problems. I want to get back to that point again - I am doing this to hopefully get off the medications I'm managed to eat myself into.....I need to get well - my husband and my mother depend on me, I am the only one that drives in our household among other things. This morning we went and got mom hearing aides - that will help her quality of life and make things much quieter here! I was really afraid that dh and I were going to be hard of hearing because of how loud she needed the TV and radio. I remember how she use to yell at me to "turn that noise down" when I was a teenager....it's funny how I wanted to yell for her to turn her noise down....what goes around comes around. Ok - I'm stepping down off my soap box for the night. Carole

Carole, congratulations on the 17 pound - 9 year milestone. I know about the "happily married" and "unhappily married" weights, too. Your goals have a solid ring to them... I am certain that you will make it. I love reading the stories of people who have gotten to their goal and all the physical problems that have disappeared and of the medications they were able to go off. You will be one of those heroes, too! Feeling a little philosophical, too, tonight.... am seeing a LOT of what goes around comes around.

Hi Carol, I am deep in the category and glad to see you. There are issues with the older dieter so its important we support eachother

hi Debbie and Desertthorn...thank you for stopping by my journal and leaving messages..... you are right, there are so many obstacles we face that the younger people don't have - but we can and WILL overcome them...it just might take us a little longer. I've been waxing philosophical so much lately -- I guess the fact that this WOE is really working for me and it seems almost effortless that I'm just so afraid I'll wake up and it's all a dream. I read the journals to keep inspired and I look at the before/after pics that are posted for additional inspiration. There are days I want to jump forward to the end and not have to worry about this anymore, but I've done those diets....that doesn't work. I was notorious for fad diets throughout my 20's and 30's - in my 40's I decided I didn't care....and now I'm in my 50's and the cold hard reality has hit that I have to do this the right way - slowly and enjoy the journey. I hope both of you keep in touch....I'm interested in your journeys too! Take care, stop by often and enjoy each day to the fullest. Carole

Since I started on a different diet January 2, and just switched to Atkins after realizing that the other diet was NOT going to work for me (I was starving!), I am not getting the rapid induction loss. Also, do you take supplements and do you include them in your carb counts? I have osteoporosis and MUST take calcium... and that is 4 carbs a day right there. Plus my vitamins, glucosamine, etc. have carbs. I have cut out several supplements also because of that. I am looking for supplements without cornstarch and sugars, but they are hard to find. I tried cutting my food carbs back to keep the total count under 20, but I feel terrible when I do that. I also have terrible crashes every day after lunch now. I think I am not eating enough early in the day, then eating too much after dinner. So now I am eating around 20 carbs a day, but with the supplements, they are at OWL level. I have just decided that if I lose 1 pound a week, it is fine. This is the only WOE that will work for me, so I will adapt myself to its schedule instead of trying to adapt it to my schedule! |
