Hi Liz! For a second I thought maybe I had written your post

I'm 51 and just finished 2 weeks of Induction. Lost 7 pounds and 6.5". So, not the 15-20 pounds some lose, but better than I was afraid it would be I have tons of energy - got rid of that feeling of falling asleep in the afternoon. The last few days we've gotten a treadmill and I've started using that every day (weather here is way too messed up with snow/ice/cold to be walking outside for me right now) so hoping that is going to kick things up a bit.

I didn't realize there were so many of us the same age on here. Do we have our own thread somewhere?

Hi slimlliz! Welcome aboard!

I just joined this group and I did find out today through some reading that the second time around is harder to lost but it can still be done...just don't give up. It might take an extra week of induction, but that is only because our bodies build up a resistance to the diet. lol!

Clever, huh?

Anyway, I lost a lot too in 2001 and here I am back needing to lose a heck of a lot more than I did then! Menopause and quitting smoking...ugh!

Good luck to us all!

I didn't find it hard at all.

Are we have an over 60s section?

That's creeping up on me!

Hi there!
I'm 51 and revisiting Atkins WOE after menopause and gaining 40+ lbs (more like 60 but who is counting). With my new metabolism I's harder to keep the weight off and I find I have to be more strick on my WOE. I was on Atkins to lose weight several years ago and found it to be very effective, although at the time I didn't need to stay on it to keep my maintenance level. Now it's another story.

I have accepted this is going to be a lifetime WOE for me now. This is the difference I have personally found with the losing weight after 50. I guess each person is different but I find the weight comes off slower than before. That being said it sure beats being overweight and unhealthy at this vital stage of the game.

Goodbye FAT!

Default Revisiting "How hard is Atkins after age 50?"

Hi Everyone! I asked this question when I started Atkins a few weeks ago.

I am hear to tell you that it isn't bad at all! I have been sticking to my plan about 80% and, althought I don't weight myself, my "jeansometer" tells me that I am down about 7-8 pounds.

I am a massage therapist and yesterday two clients said, "wow, it looks like you are losing weight". I haven't told anyone I'm doing anything for weight loss.

WOOOOO HOOOOO.

Atkins after 50 is very DOABLE!!!

Liz

I started Atkins about 7 weeks before my 50th birthday (and will be 51 this week ) and, while I am still about 30 pounds from my goal, am very happy with how I look and feel. I feel more energetic and happier and sleep much better than I did prior to starting Atkins.

Since the symptoms of hypoglycemia are due to instability of insulin levels and resulting blood sugar levels, this WOE is the ideal cure for the condition.

Sounds like you are doing great!!
