They use lactitol, a sugar alcohol. Anything ending in "ol' is usually a sugar alcohol. It's hard to tell how you'll react, some people don't have a problem at all, others are very sensitive.

Personally (just a theory of mine) I think it has to do with your ability to break down the sugar alcohols. If your body is very good at breaking them down then they don't make it into the large intestine where they cause all the problems. Although this sounds good it also means that you are getting the full carb count listed in the product!
