Re: Time for ADA to stop killing diabetics | | I totally agree with you. It makes me soooooo angry that physicians are just throwing diabetic patients into the low-fat diets and giving them meds when what they should be doing is putting them on low carb plans. I was injecting myself up to 4 or more times a day with 2 different types of insulin and taking 2000 MG of Metformin and 4MG of Amaryl a day. The first day I was on Atkins, my blood glucose levels went down and have stayed down. I have not taken a single pill or had to give myself insulin since I started Atkins on 07/22/08. My friend is exactly the same. She didn't have diabetes yet, but was pre-diabetic and of course just immediately put on Metformin and a low fat diet. She hasn't had a high number or taken a pill since being on Atkins.
The more successful this WOE is for me, the more resentful I am toward my physician and that she either 1) doesn't know about the effects carbs have on glucose, although she shoudl or 2) doesn't like "low carbing".
Anyway, maybe one day the medical community will all realize there are many more successful ways to manage diabetes without having to take any medications and gain weight.

Off all meds now thanks to Atkins! Forget past mistakes. Forget failures. Forget everything except what you’re going to do now and do it.
