I began my journey to be healthier 6 weeks ago now. For me, my goals aren’t to be thin but to be healthy again. I’m almost 39 years old and have spent the majority of my adult life very plus sized. My body is feeling the pain of that now so it was time for me to find something that helps me change ME! Atkins is doing just that! (Atkins at a Glance) ADBB is a huge part of helping me achieve my goals.
The various challenges on ADBB are incredibly helpful for me. The no weigh challenge (Weigh? No Way! Challenge #2 ~ A Board Wide Challenge) was my first, and one that really helped me realize how important it is to listen to our bodies and not just rely on the numbers! Exercise and I have never really seen eye to eye So I’ve been climbing mountains and buildings with the Pledging Flights group (PLEDGING FLIGHTS *** A Stair Climb Challenge) and I’ve now joined a 6 week group to try to be faithful in my exercise routine and to form a habit of sorts with exercise.

Journaling here on the site and keeping my own personal journal also is keeping me strong and accountable for my reactions. The support of others, and supporting others and the friendships gained along the way are priceless!

I’ve tried to lose weight many times.........this time, it all just seems to 'fit'. Is it because I'm simply getting old (er!!) and am really ready for a change in my life? Is it because I'm truly happy in my life now and want to be healthier? Maybe it's all the extra support I've found in my boyfriend and in this site. hmmm.. maybe I wanna be Miss Universe! haha

I don't really know the reason, but I'll take it! I feel so much stronger and ready to take this on. I don't feel like I'm giving up anything to do it either, which I think is such a huge advantage to this WOE. I know I'll eventually want to have something I know I shouldn’t... and I probably will do it - that night out for an ice cream or a party I just don't feel like being strong for....... BUT on a day to day basis, we eat well, we eat good food and I don't feel like we're doing anything other than living our lives.

I have a lot of weight to lose to be healthy again. I began at 342 lbs and have now lost about 20 lbs in 6 weeks. I figure, in a couple of years, I can either still be doing what I was doing and my knees will be worse, my joints will be failing.. Or I can make changes to my life! Either way, I’ll be living life and now, enjoying it along the way!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!
