pace lap What are your hobbies and/or passions in life?

My biggest passion right now is raising a wonderful daughter. I absolutely love to cook. I also like to read and am a nut about solving logic problems and number puzzles.

lap 2 Which describes you best: I don't weigh, ever! ~ I weigh between 2 or 3 times a week ~ I am a full blown scaleaholic.
I weigh between 2 or 3 times a week.

lap 3 What is your favorite legal food?
I can’t get enough steamed broccoli, each bite dipped in a little cup of melted butter. If it’s on the same plate as a nice ribeye steak I’m even happier.

lap 4 What is your favorite ADBB forum?

That’s a tough choice because all of them have so much great information in them, but right now it’s the one for OWL. I also enjoy visiting the celebration forum both for inspiration and to congratulate everyone on their hard work. I’m really looking forward to being able to post some good news there soon!

lap 5 Have you met any of your ADBB buddies in person?

No.

lap 6 Looking back at the beginning of your journey, did you set reasonable goals when you started your weight loss journey?

I’m struggling with this answer a little bit because the last time I was 130 I wasn’t very strong – just thin. I’m exercising a bunch now though, and I remember that when I have muscle on me I look better at 135-140. But somewhere in the 130-140 range with good muscle tone is reasonable – and I know I’ll get there. If you asked me this 2 months ago it would have been a much different answer - I just put down the number I figured I ought to be, and at the time I really didn’t have much confidence I’d ever get there.

lap 7 What does 'paying if forward' mean to you?

I learned about this wonderful concept when I watched an old movie many years ago called “Magnificent Obsession” starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman. To me it means doing good things for others, selflessly – taking your satisfaction from the difference your good deed makes in others’ lives, and knowing that that kindness will continue to be passed along. Part of my understanding of this concept is that it should be anonymous – because you should perform the good deed not for recognition but because you have a sincere desire to make a difference in someone’s life.

lap 8 Where do you see yourself in 1 year, as it concerns your woe, exercise and health?
I see myself enjoying the Maintenance phase, exercising 3-4x per week, enjoying much more active activities with my daughter without feeling embarrassed because I’m so much bigger than most of the other moms (like being able to go to the beach with her, and actually wearing a swimsuit instead of shorts and a tee-shirt!).

lap 9 How do you challenge yourself when it comes to exercise?
Right now I’m doing the Slim in 6 workouts and I try to concentrate on the set she’s counting out on the DVD at that moment. I have to mentally break it into smaller parts like that because if I think about the whole thing being 45 minutes long it’s overwhelming. I try to consider what my weaknesses are and I target them – like I’m doing the September Abs Challenge right now because that’s my worst area.

final lap If you could give somebody one piece of advise about this woe/wol, what would you say?

Totally IMMERSE yourself in the 2002 DANDR book and this website as much as possible in the beginning, in order to give yourself enough support while you’re establishing this way of eating as your new good habit. Keep the book in a handy location and re-read sections that are of particular concern whenever necessary, and re-read sections at random when you have a few moments. I won’t confess where I keep my book, but it’s the one place in the house where I’m assured of some privacy for at least a few minutes every day! And browse this site to see how others are dealing with all of the same issues you are facing. Introducing yourself and posting questions invests yourself in this WOE too – it’s a formal statement that this IS what you are doing, and makes you more accountable for being successful. And you get tons of support and answers too.
