You need to get yourself a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (version 2002, DANDR for short) and give it a read. It's all laid out in the book for you. :yes
Once you are familiar with the Acceptable Foods lists and the whole 'why' behind Atkins you can put together meals that you like. They don't have to be complicated things...I stuck to mainly salads and meat combo's for the first while until I felt comfortable with things. Then I started having fun trying different recipes.
It's not imperative to eat everything on the Acceptable Foods list..you can choose the things you prefer, but remember to experiment a little so that you get some variety when it comes to the different nutrients and fiber that different foods offer.

For quick foods I always have boiled eggs on hand as well as a variety of fresh veggies and blue cheese or ranch dressing to dip them in. I always cook extra at dinner time so I have a lunch for the next day. Planning ahead is key.

You can eat till you are satisfied and it's best if you ditch the diet coke as aspartame isn't allowed and just stick to 64+ ounces of water a day.

So read the book, follow the Rules of Induction by eating the proper amounts off of the Acceptable Foods lists, and take the time to read the sticky's in the forums you use here...chock full of good info!

All the best to you!

I have read the book... I understand how it works.. I guess I was just under the impression:: example: Breakfast: Greek omplet 1/2 cup spinch, 2 oz feta & 2 eggs.. Out of that.. I would only like the eggs LOL.
Lunch: corned beef, swiss cheese rye bread.. Dislike it all lol..
Dinner: grilled salmon Dislike fish lol..

Are there free food so to speak?? can i just eat eggs and sausage 2x a day for a lil while??.. I guess that is were I dont understand.. OK so you say stay away from diet coke due to the aspartame.. I can do water... But I will also miss my pop/soda very much too.. are there other things I can drink for that instead??? I know decaffinated coffee.. tea... anything else on the list??

Thanx again.. I have also been reading posts.. to see what other hints are out there too..

Default lots of food, lots of water

Quote:
how much I can actually eat.
you get lots of delicious wholesome healthy food. unprocessed and unpackaged. you keep your carb count to 20 per day. i personally, never counted calories. you only eat the foods and the amounts on the acceptable foods list and you eat until you are reasonably full. You never go hungry. a typical day is 3 meals with a snack.

Quote:
What one can drink.. Diet caffiene coke??
water, water, water!
at least 64 ounces of water per day.

diet soda has no nutritional value, and can prevent weight loss, so most monitors will wisely tell you to avoid it completely, especially during Induction.

if you must have a diet soda, make sure it is sweetened with splenda and not aspartme. my rule for myself on a diet soda, is that it has to be accompanied with two 13 ounce bottles of water at the same time.

Quote:
Can someone maybe give me a list of real foods??
You can print out your own list from a sticky above.

Quote:
Im on the go.. cant cook everyday... need things to eat that are easy.. can it be done??
It can be done. But you do need to be open to learning new dishes and preparing foods in advance. My daughter makes omelets in a muffin tin and takes one to work each morning. Learn how to make the mock danish.

Quote:
do I have to eat foods I really dislike now???

Never eat anything you really dislike. Do design menus using your favorite foods from the acceptable food lists. But be aware as you go into ketosis your appetite and your taste buds will change.

You may even find food that wasn't appealing to you before is acceptable now. I wasn't a veggie eater. Now I adore them.

It is too bad you won't eat fish.

I also didn't use to eat much fish. But now it is a daily staple because I love it, and it is so good for me. Keep in mind there are many different kinds of fish, including shrimp, crab, scallops and lobster.

Quote:
Please help me do this 1st 2 weeks right..
Everyone is here to help you but you must be very pro-active yourself. You must understand the science behind Atkins in order to suceed. Thats why reading the 2002 DANDR is so important. You cannot wing it. If you try, you will fail.

Quote:
because I know if I can get past the 1st 2 weeks.. I will be on the track to being someone who I want to be...
Very true. Preperation is the key. Read the book. Clear your home of carbage. Purchase foods from the approved food lists. Exercise. You'll be on your way.

Quote:
Are there free food so to speak??
all fish, fowl, shellfish, meat, eggs - liberal amounts

Quote:
can i just eat eggs and sausage 2x a day for a lil while??..
definately not. while those are two of the safe induction foods that you can eat, you also need to include all the other food that is required - including the proper allotment of veggies. you are building a new and lasting lifestyle here - not a quickie diet. Variety is an important key in creating lasting mental satisfaction on this program.
also, if you aren't eating enough food that will prevent your weight loss.

There are endless recipes available online, on cable and in the bookstores that help us add creativity and pleasure to this way of life. You want to make your menus as pleasurable as possible - you are never deprived on Atkins.

Quote:
I dont understand..
It would appear you don't understand the rules anymore - thats ok though. there is a great deal of information to know and we all have to read and re-read frequently to stay current.

i had to laugh when i saw rye bread - we eat no bread at all during induction. grains don't get added until one of the last levels of owl.

Quote:
But I will also miss my pop/soda very much too..
And I missed my coffee. But I was so much better off without it. It was giving me a false lift then dropping me. Things that give us a false lift aren't good for us. soda sadly, really isn't good for us. so give it up, or at least cut it down to one per day, and you will be better off for it.

And good luck to you. ha

Bread is not allowed during Induction. Which book did you read?
You need to familiarize yourself with the Acceptable Foods list and create your own meals. There's no need to stick to any set menu. The book offers suggestions, but that certainly doesn't mean that's exactly what you have to eat.

You need your veggies! Again, get familiar with the Acceptable Foods list, and the Rules of Induction and use them as your guide. Your body needs the nutrients and fiber from a variety of foods, so limiting yourself isn't a great idea. It's also better for your digestion to have a variety as well.

I miss my chocolate, and my cakes, and my muffins and my hot chocolate...we all miss a lot of stuff...but if you think nutritionally, what does that food or drink have to offer you other than a sweet taste?
Induction is a time to break yourself of your sweet tooth, so at least stay off of it for the initial two weeks of Induction, and then look around for alternatives, such as home-made decaf iced tea sweetened with splenda, when you are ready to add it back in.

A reminder to read the sticky's in the forums...very helpful! :yes
Check out the one about Fitday...great tool.

I can't add anything to what's already been said ... EXCEPT ONE MORE TIME:

Read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition. Then re-read it. Then take it grocery shopping with you. Then memorize it. Then live by it.

I think you have the wrong book or you didn't read it. You want a copy of DR ATKINS' NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 or newer and chapter 11 is all about how to do in duction with food lists you can pick from to ccreate your own menu with the foods you like off the lists.

You can eat on Atkins whenever you are hungry as much food as it takes to satisfy your hunger and stop some times that will be a few bites other times it will be a whole plate. We learn portion control though feeding only our hunger and not the empty space in our bellies, our carb budget nor our eyeballs.

This program will blow your mind about dieting. If you are hungery at bedtime eat if you are hungry at 9AM eat just make sure you budget your carbs on you have some carbs some fat and some protein every time you eat and you end up with 65% of your total cals from fats, 30% from protein and under 20 net carbs for Induction.

Make sure you are drinking all your water too as many times folk mistake thirst for hunger as they are sideby side controlled in the brain and siganl leakagre occurs. If you think you are hungry drink a glass of water and see if the hunger goes away in 20 min if not eat. Once you get the full amount of water your body needs, see the FAQ on drinking water to lose weight, you will not be mistaking thirst ofr hunger.

Every bit of advice that has already been said here is EXTERMELY useful. But I would just like to add that there are many items that you like that can be made with the foods in the induction list.

There are Atkins versions of chocolate, cookies, muffins and hot chocolate in the Recipe section of this board (located at the top of every page). You just have to adjust your taste buds.

But remember what got you overweight in the first place was eatting all the junk food. The WOE is trying to get you away from all that stuff. Induction is supposed to help you overcome your cravings (I promise it WILL happen if you follow the Rules Of Induction).

Be careful not to go over the amount of sweetner and cheese that you can have.
