    Default A little Discouraged

Well i just finished my 14 days and 1st week was 7 pound loss and 2nd only 3, not sure what stalled the weight loss. I pretty much did the same thing i did the 1st week in the 2nd week. I really dont like veggies so the only veggie i have had is green peas which i counted the carbs against the 20 i was allowed daily. For snacks i ate slim jims which had 2g each, other than that its been meat and eggs all the time, plus chewing some gum that has 1g. I have not gotten to a weight where i feel comfortable exercising. Im currently 365 and working to getting to 225 got a long way to go. Any tips would be great. Im used to eating 600-1000 carbs daily and my blood sugar with diabetic meds was generally over 200, i have since stopped taking meds and on the diet my blood sugar has steadily dropped to 155 after week one and now this week 140. I fear that the diet may not work good for me since i really cant eat any veggies except corn and peas. Wondering if i should go another 2 weeks in induction or just move to the next stage and expand the variety of carbs with the extra 5g a day. How important is exercising could not exercise make the diet not work for me. thanks for any help..

You are not really following the diet that well .
Peas is just not great to eat. It is not a veggie. It is almost pure sugar

Slim jims are stuff that Atkins says we should avoid - processed meat with gunk added

Gum has sugar alchols that may impact your induction. You should not do that.

Limit sweeteners to only 3 a day

You are seriously under eating and setting yourself up for failure and lowering metabolism.

Time to do it right. No excuses. Veggies will not kill you. Your tastes will change. One baby step at a time.

    Good news about your bloodsugar

A few adjustments and things will pick for you again. Second week is often a bummer week. It was for me too.

There is a point where you just need to suck it up. There is a list of allowed veggies on induction which you can find in the stickies in the induction forum if you do not have the book. If you haven't read the book you need to read it. If you don't like veggies, then do something different with them. Do you like fried onions on your burger? Cauliflower smothered in cheese? Find things that you like by trying different things. At the end of the day you won't like everything, but eating some stuff that you don't like very much is a small price to pay to change your life.

Regardless of what plan you follow you can't really avoid eating veggies...

If you like peas maybe you will like jicama. I always think jicama has almost a pea like taste
It is a root veggie from mexico and not very starchy at all
I usually eat it raw - because that is how I like it but others do a lot of stuff with it.

How about fries - you like those
You can make some fry like stuff with veggies. Turnip if baked like fries in the oven are quite good - they are not crispy as potatoes but they are good and you can find no sugar added ketchup (it is kind of a veggie too ketchup )

I deep fry kale and french cut green beans. French cut green beans (straigt from frozen because I am lazy) I like to fry till they are almost brown and quite crisp - and yes they go well with ketchup

Some people really like jalopeno poppers
or cauliflower wrapped in bacon and baked.

    Hi Kaj,

Here is what I have learned about veggies through Atkins. It's not always the veggie itself, but the way it is prepared, that makes ALL the difference. Example: I have hated brussel sprouts my whole life. If you cook them I will leave, the smell is even too much. Until.......I tried them roasted in the oven. Oh my - they are lovely! Fresh, covered in olive oil (or even better, bacon grease!) and garlic and salt and pepper, on a tray, in the oven for half hour. They are devine!!! They have a nutty flavour.

Atkins is a whole foods way of life. You will need to cook - a lot. That's just the way it is. Test drive veggies, cook them in new ways. I promise you, you will be pleasantly surprised. Veggies are sooooooo good - once you find the ones you like - cooked the way you like.

Edit: brussell sprouts are the extreme. I regularly roast brocolli, cauliflower, zuchinni, most veggies - I am starting to like them more than the rest of my meals and have to keep an eye on how much I eat.

Number 1 - during induction you should be eating your veggies measured in cups (and not exceeding 20 net grams of carbs).

Number 2 - you need to mix up your veggies to get the nutrition you need.

Number 3 - you lost weight the whole time - you didn't even pause, let alone stall. If you're expecting to lose 7 pounds per week, you are in for a disappointment. During the next couple of weeks, you may not lose any. You may even gain. It's pretty common.

Number 4 - you want to know whether you should move from induction to OWL - 1, but OWL - 1 is just more veggies!

Number 5 - Get the book, read the book, love the book. Keep coming here for support.

How much pure water are you.... never mind. Drink more water.
