Default Atkins Shakes ingredients help for a newbie

I'm on my 3rd day of induction. I've read the Atkins shakes are acceptable in induction on their website.

My problem is, I can't decipher the ingredients. I can taste the sweet, but I can't tell what ingredient is sweetening it?

I've been using one a day. Everything else is meat/cheese/veggies/eggs/tuna.

I just want to make sure the Atkins Shakes aren't limiting my ketosis.

this should be the first warning flag re: the shakes. we try and strive for real, whole foods, ones that either a. don't require a nutrition label in the first place (whole veggies from your produce aisle for instance) or b. ones with simple ingredients that we can pronounce and understand. the shakes are full of additives and should be used for emergencies at best. i'm not sure which ones you have, but many are sweetened with sucralose and contain non induction friendly ingredients.

The sweeteners are sucralose (splenda) and maltodextrin. Most people here on the forum go by Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and do not recommend using the shakes and bars listed as "acceptable" on the Atkins website. Many ingredients found in those bars, like nuts for instance, are not acceptable for induction. I believe maltodextrin is a sweetener (along with other similar ones dextrose, sucrose, etc) that you want to steer clear of during a clean induction. There are many alternative shake recipes to try out that you can find in the recipe section of this forum. They are tasty and usually more filling than the Atkins shakes.

Ace P and sucralose are the two sweeteners.
I would be a bit careful adding it.

Well, to answer my own question ... it depends.

I find the shakes very handy for getting some protein in me when I don't have another good option. I'm single and not much of a cook.

For me for induction, I found only the Vanilla & Strawberry flavors acceptable. Both are 2 Carb/1 Fiber. Other flavors start adding carbs and/or bad sugar replacements.

It worked for me, anyway, as I still lost 10 lbs. in 14 days. They kept me from being hungry when I was crunched for time.

The company that makes the shakes says they are ok for Induction. Just think, you may have lost even more without the shakes. Cooking isn't hard, especially on Atkins. You don't have to make fancy meals, just the basics.

Atkins is about eating real, unprocessed foods. The company that makes the shakes only wants your money, claiming you can have up to 2 of them a day. They are not trying to help you change your way of eating to lose weight successfully. You need to train yourself to prep enough allowed foods in advance if you want to follow this way of eating/losing weight the right way.

When you prepare food, make a few extra servings. Make larger sized portions of tuna salad or egg salad. A crustless quiche will last for several days. How about a pot roast? Keep some hard boiled eggs ready to go.

Take time a few times a week to plan and prepare several things at a time. Then you will have a "quick and simple" meal ready almost as fast as grabbing a shake.

Eating real food is easy with some planning.
