Default Day 4 and Messed Up...!!!

I started this WOE Saturday, May 7. Today is Day 4 and I lost 2.5 lbs (I know it is water weight!) so far. I had no intentions of going off or breaking Induction rules AT ALL but of course the inevitable happened and I ate carbs!!! I am always out with clients for lunch and/or dinner events, etc. for work. To make a long story short, I know I could've ordered something without eating bread, etc. but I guess the "pressure" was there because people always tell me I shouldn't be on a diet (but that is another story in itself!! lol) when I tell them I am (I am going to start to avoid telling people as of today!!). Just so you know, I am 5'2", weight 125.5lbs as of today (will probably be 3 lbs heavier tomorrow!!) and my goal is to be 108. To make matters worse, I ate horribly the rest of the day (more junk/processed foods such as dessert, etc)!!!!! I guess I am just rambling on but I thought I would at least post here to see how long it will take me to get back to Day 4 results...will this mess up my Induction. I plan on staying on Induction an extra week anyway.

Any advice would be great...!! ensive

There is no need to say you are on a "diet". I dont eat processed whites(aka four&sugar) is a better reply. They you have no explaining.

This is why we sould not fall off, it is so easy to stay off. Get back up and stick to plan. Planning ahead before you go out to eat helps a lot.

Default freedom from carb addiction

As long as you believe eating carbs is "inevitable" you will fail.

It isn't "inevitable"...it is a choice. And you can choose to enjoy
a delicious piece of fish or steak in restaurants, and you need
justify it to no one.

Many wonderful people have chosen to embrace Atkins and found freedom from carb addiction on this forum. if they can do it - you
can do it too.

Refrain from using this cheat as a reason to eat frankenfoods. just get back on and stay on. The only way to stay in ketosis is to stay in ketosis.

Fight for your good health! You are worth it!

Hello Malikah,

Well done on your loss so far, it gives you a taste of whats to come!

I find the first 4 or 5 days are the hardest, as your body is switching over and your not always in Keytosis yet (depending how carb loaded your meals were prior to starting induction). Once your in keytosis your hunger and desire for the addictive foods will decrease.

Failure to stay cheat free can make you dig deeper and drive you to succeed, it’s not the worst thing – but never trying in the first place is!

Today’s a new day, lets make the most of it by eating well, you’ll know you will feel better.

Have a good day :hug

First off, get back on the low carb wagon and learn from this experience.

Secondly, you might want to read Atkins for Life. That is the book Dr. Atkins wrote for folks who have a few pounds to lose and/or want to adopt a low carb lifestyle.

Thirdly, you have about 17 pounds to lose. Please be aware, that you can expect to lose between 5-10% of the weight you need to lose during Induction. So a person with 100 pounds to lose will lose 5-10 pounds. A person with 10 pounds to lose will lose between 1/2 to 1 pound. In both cases, these are acceptable and predictable weight loss amounts. So don't be disappointed that you might not lose as many pounds as someone with a larger weight loss goal.

Fourthly, there's a misconception that you can "start over" and those earlier days don't count don't count towards the first 14 days. Take your case for example, you "messed up" Day 4. Some folks are under the impression that they can subtract Days 1-3 from their 14 days. That's not the case. Your Day 1 will always be Day 1. If you fall off on Day 4 and get back on the following day, Day 5 is Day 5 not "day 1 of restarted Induction". The results you get during the first 14 days will determine what your degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss is and that in turn will determine the number of carbs your body can tolerate.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I just wanted to let you know I am back on track and feel great. I just got back from running 5.25 mi in 51min!! I am very determined to not let anything or anyone get in my way this time around!!

I have read the DANDR and have a question about prolonging Induction. Since I "messed up" Day 4, should I stay on Induction for an extra week? I don't mind this "strict" phase. Will I lose faster this way or do you recommend that I move on to OWL? I would prefert to stay on Induction until I reach 117-118lbs.

Any feedback would be great!

Hi malikah :wave

Well done, thats good news. You keep at it and you'll be feeling great!

You could always stay on extended induction, many do until they are satisfied with their progress.

Happy losing,

Sally

But remember that you ought to move to pre-maintenance when you have 5-10 pounds left to lose, so you would be better prepared for maintaining your goal weight if you don't stay on induction but move to OWL after your 14-day induction period.
This will allow you to climb the OWL ladder sensibly and test how the different food groups affect your body as well as discover your CCLL (Critical carbs level for losing) before you reach goal.
People who use the four stages of Atkins in the way Dr Atkins directed seem to be able to keep the weight off easier after reaching goal, whereas most of the people who have to redo Atkins a few years after reaching goal weight seem to have treated Induction as the only stage of Atkins :yikes and are unable to maintain goal when they 'go off' the WOE.
