| If you can make it past the first week with no sweets, the cravings will go away. Something I did when craving sweets was to eat cheese. It's such a strong flavor that you never really want anything after you've had cheese. Remember not to go over your 3-4 ounces for the day though! I used to eat so much candy. I'd buy the theatre sized boxes of Mike & Ikes, or a 10oz. bag of swedish fish and eat it all in one sitting (and then want more). If I can go from that to not craving it at all, even when I walk by it in the supermarket, you can do 1 week without them! Hang in There! |

| You can also take supplements to reduce the cravings. L-Glutamine helps fight against sugar and alcohol Cravings.

| I know I shouldn't have but I'd eat about 3 tbsp heavy whipping cream with 1 packet Splenda and whip it up like whipped cream. Careful not to overwhip--will turn to butter consistency. Also, if you happen to have sugar free maple syrup, a drop will make it have a better flavor... but really, SF maple syrup isn't on induction list... so just warning you. I'd eat that and feel satistfied... still continued to lose weight as well. But just advising you, it's better to stay away from the sweet taste even though there is no sugar. You want to lose that addiction... instead, it's better to have a couple strips of bacon or something. I know it's not sweet, but it's something to replace the sweet craving with something else that's tastey. That's what I always tried to do |

| :yikes Did you read that sticky about sugar-cravings? For some of us, even the thought of something sweet is enough to cause a bloodsugar spike! Seriously, drown yourself with fatty foods like bacon, cheese - anything, I promise you, your sugar craving will go as the fat satiates you

| I did Atkins for the first time years ago and was a faithful follower of the "sugar-free jello and sugar-free gum will get you through it" mantra. I've recently started back on Induction to get rid of that nasty 20 pounds that I couldn't shake with South Beach! Am I to understand now that these sweets are actually taboo on Atkins? I sure hope not - I'm also cutting down my smoking, so the gum, at least would be a huge lifesaver! Help!!! |

| If you stay within your 3 sweetener a day limit you should be ok. It's the aspartame that's the culprit. It's not allowed on Atkins as we are told to avoid it. (page 128 of DANDR for the list of allowed sweeteners) There's two ways of looking at eating sweets. You can use artificially sweetened things as a 'crutch' to get you through, but as someone mentioned, beware of this: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=66389 or...you can work on getting that sugar monster off your back for good. I'm talking from experience here, folks. My day would be centered on that treat I had hidden in the fridge or the cupboard. I would rush through dinner so I could have my treat. Treats ruled my life, and I used to say I felt anxious if there was no chocolate in the house. I didn't want to be like that anymore. Why on earth was I letting a specific food item rule my day?!! *I*'m the only one in charge of my self worth and my mood...not a piece of food that doesn't benefit my body in any nutritional way shape or form. I can't say it's been a fun year dealing with this, but quite honestly, I've made myself legal treats, and actually forgotten that I have them in the house, so I feel I've accomplished what I wanted to do. lol..ok, lecture over! Gum is going to be fine, as long as the sweeteners are legal, and you don't over-do your limit for the day. I'd suggest picking something with a really strong flavour rather than a sweet fruity taste to avoid triggering cravings. |
