Default Advise on supplements/vitamins??

Hi - Shout out and thanks to G-Mom & Tickletussler for advise that my wiped out feeling may be due to loss of minerals/supplements.

Again - I feel like I am Atkins book challenged - as it is very detail oriented, so wondering if you can let me know what you guys are taking and what works for you.

I have been taking a 1-a-day Weight Smart multi-vitamin plus 1 potassiam tab daily. I was going to get chromium piccolinate - is this enough or do I need more? A detailed list would be greatly appreciated.

Don't really have the funds to get Atkins prof/pack at this time, not that it's not important - but on limited funding for the next couple weeks. I also know there is an uber-list of recommended supplements - but not know what does what - would really appreciate your help.

You guys are great - I hope you can share more valuable insite to wiped out Luna - so I can get back to doing cardio and not feel like such a dishrag! Thanks - thanks and more thanks!

It's really typical to feel tired in the first few weeks of Atkins. It's a big change your body is going through dealing with the withdrawal, so what you are feeling is normal, and it'll pass. It's no fun! but it'll pass.

You don't need to take Atkins brand supplements.
You want a good multi-vitamin that is iron free, and beyond that, it's up to you.
I take GNC's iron free Womens Ultra Mega. Some folks take Centrum Silver, which is iron free.

Potassium will help with leg cramps. I didn't take it at first, and had a few cramping episodes, and a few days after I started it, they eased up. I just took one pill a day and that did the trick. I'm currently taking one every other day to slowly get off of them.

Chromium will help combat cravings. I'm really on the fence about whether it really did that or not....or whether the idea that I was taking something to fight the cravings was what helped me.
They didn't stop the endless thoughts about sweets, etc but I never was tempted to grab an illegal treat and eat it. I'm glad I took it though, and I weaned myself off of it after about 10 months, with no return of cravings.

I also take a calcium supplement, because most women should.

You may also want to have a read through the Vita Nutrients and Supplements forum to see if there's anything in there that is relevant to you as well. :yes

Default Good advise - why iron free?

Hello again - thanks for good advise. This may have been in the book - but I don't recall. Why iron free? Sorry if I have a ton of questions - but your kind of results are EXACTLY what I would love! I do believe what I am taking has iron - I'd really be interested in knowing why you exclude iron from your supplements.

Also - premo advise on the calcium - for some reason - I tend to forget that I'm an adult woman who NEEDS calcium. Don't wanna look like a question mark once I'm in my 60's.

I actually NEEDED the postassium - I was walking up @ night with the WORSE cramps in my legs - and couldn't walk 'em off - the potassium did the trick.

I will get the chromium and see how that works. Again - much thanks to you for much needed info - Luna

We get enough iron from the foods we eat on Atkins so we don't need any extra in our vitamins.

...and Luna..omg..what on earth are you holding in that picture?!!!

I use the 'nutrition' report at www.fitday.com to help me keep a check on my vitamin/mineral intake.
Though the recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) %s are probably not exactly right as they are general US figures I can see whether the foods and pills I have entered have given me what is recommended. If not I can take an extra supplement to help.

Default Too much iron!

Ohhhhhh - too *much* iron - that makes GREAT sense - I didn't even think of that. I will pass on my current vitamins on & purchase new.

Great advise - I apreciate it. As to what I am holding? It's a baby werewolf - of course. My brother is a sculptor of all things strange & creepy - horror & sci-fi related. We worked a sci-fi convention last month @ the Meadowlands in NJ - he's the talent - I'm the sales coordinator. Really cool event - lots of fun. Going to the event in my current pudgy state was one of the deciding factors that I am not living the life I want to live - and thus, turned to Atkins. They had a huge costume ball - and what I wouldn't have given to dress sexy instead of just trying to find something that just fits and covers my bulges!

Default Not the kitty!

Ha! Can you imagine a kitty like that! Actually - do have several kitties - a result of having our local SPCA as a sales account of mine. When I would call on that account - I'd go see the kitties on death row - and *have* to rescue 'em. I now have 5 rescued kitties and have given up the account - just to hard to see 'em like that.
