Default New on this forum - First day of induction

Hello everyone,

I just joined this forum today and it's my first day of induction. I got motivated to do the Atkin's Diet because I want to loose 10-15 kg of my pregnancy weight. Right now it seems like it will never happen but after reading posts of other people I am so motivated. I do aerobics for 1 hour daily at the gym which I am not planning to stop unless I feel dizzy or unwell.

This is my menu for this week please correct me if there is anything wrong.

Day 1
Breakfast: 2 eggs omlette (which only has chopped onion)
Lunch: 2 chicken breast with brocolli
Dinner: 1 large steak, green salad with cucmber, lemon and olive oil dressing

Day 2

Breakfast : 2 boiled eggs
Lunch: 1 bowl shrimp in mayo cocktail
Dinner: Boiled fish with lemon and butter over it, sauteed mushrooms with onions

Day 3

Breakfast: Omlette
Lunch: 1 steak, boiled green peas, 1 tomato
Dinner: grilled chicken with green salad and cucumber (lemon & olive oil dressing)

Day 4

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled
Lunch: shrimp cocktail
Dinner: Grilled lamb chops, 1 tomato

Day 5

Breakfast: Eggs
Lunch: boiled fish with lemon and butter
Dinner: pan fried chicken in butter and rosemarry

Day 6
Breakfast: Eggs
Lunch: Steak
Dinner: Lamb chops

So what do you think? The reason for having eggs for breakfast is because I can't think of having anything else. Usually I used to have porridge or cereal and sometimes just one cup of black coffee. I also plan to drink 2-3 litres of water per day.

Welcome, and good job on the consistent exercise!

Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short)?

The reason I ask is that your menus don't look like enough food, to be honest, and I doubt you are getting enough fat or vegetables. Is there sugar in the cocktail sauce you use with your shrimp? On one day you mention peas, and peas are not allowed until well into the upper rungs of OWL. On Day 5 and 6 you don't even mention vegetables at all.

Here's a link that will help you chart your fat/protein/carb ratios on fitday.com...it will explain it as well.

You are pretty much on the right track but if you haven't read the book, I urge you to do so. If you have read the book, I urge you to re-read the chapter on Induction and the Acceptable Food lists.

Breakfast can be whatever you want it to be. Some days I like to put some cream cheese on deli meat and roll it up..yum! Or I'll have leftovers from last nights dinner. It can be whatever you want it to be. Some people will have tuna or chicken salad. Whatever appeals to you :yes
If you're having an omelette or scrambled eggs, chop up some mushrooms or broccoli and throw them in there as well so you are spreading your 3 cups of veggies out through the day.

All the best to you!

Default Thanks

Thanks so much for the reply I will definitely alter my meal plan. I have not got the book it's not available at the bookstores I went too but I am still searching and hope to get one before the end of the week. I will definitely add some more veges into my meal plan and cut out the peas.

Hi diligent :wave
Welcome to our ha family :hug

Do you have charity shops (thrift shops) or secondhand bookshops locally?
Even in the UK where Atkins really seems only to have arrived recently there are usually a couple of copies of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 on the shelves in most of that kind of shops.
Several USA members have posted that they have bought a copy for less than a dollar!

Just make sure you get that edition - as the earlier version of Dr Atkins Diet Revolution (note - no 'New' in the title of the old book) had things different to the one we work from and it might confuse you :hug
