Default normal weight loss for the first couple of days?

Hey everyone, this is my third day on atkins, about to be 4th(in an hour). So far I have lost 2 pounds. I have been keeping the carbs down and I felt VERY hungry the first 2 days, but I couldnt eat anymore. Today I felt great, I eat an OK amount and dont feel hungry. I am 18 years old, and usually excersize, but i have been too weak these past few days, but tomorrow I think I might start running.

Some things I am concerned about, that might be hurting my weight loss.
I am drinking decaf iced tea with splenda for desert, I am from the south and I missssssss my sweet tea. Also I bought some of the sugar free jello. 0 carbs and 0 calories. I was on aktins a few years ago, and lost 13 pounds and 2 weeks, and ate the jello, but I never knew if it was OK. Thanks!

I am 6'2 226. My goal is 190.

Just don't count the ice tea as part of your water! Drink tons and tons of water! Get to know the toilet in a deeper way......lol

And some people avoid sugar free jello. Some eat it. You have to sort of play with it to find out if it stalls you.

Keep up the good work! The first few pounds are water, and it sounds like you almost immediately started dropping water weight! You can expect to lose between 5 and 10% of the total weight you need to lose during these two weeks!

Yep...my wife lovessss sweet tea. :capital

But ditch it. During Induction you want to kill your sweet tooth. But not eating any sweet foods...the regular foods you eat like veggies start tasting much better. You can even start tasting sweetness in some meats (strange but true).

It's like giving up smoking...everything tastes better!
It also makes sticking to the plan easier.
Get rid of the jello. There are some jello-like desserts listed here that you can make pretty easily.

You may want to hold off the exercise a few more days if you can. At first it's going to be a struggle but that should improve in a week or 2.

PS cute pix! :geek

ah I guess I might. I dont really have a sweet tooth, I just love sweet tea. I enjoy eating salty things really. The jello is to get rid of my fuit tooth. I love fruit, so atkins has been giving me problems.

I am drinking probably 90oz of water a day. I pee every hour...atleast. I am dying here not being able to run, or play any sports, but I might hold off. we will see. Thanks for the replies!

Hi Scott!!

Dr. Atkins tells us to avoid aspartame completely, as it stalls some folks, so you'd be doing yourself a favour if you avoided it completely.
Did you know that rhubarb is on the 1 cup veggie list? You can cook it down with a splash of water and splenda (in a small pot on medium heat..just cook and stir till the rhubarb pretty much dissolves..it's really easy) and because it's so concentrated it will only take a few tsp's to satisfy the fruit thing. It's especially good on a piece of cream cheese..and it's perfectly legal.
Remember we measure veggies raw, so it's best to cook down 1 cup of rhubarb and eyeball it so that you know how much a tsp really is.

You shouldn't be feeling hungry on Atkins! We are encouraged to eat if we are hungry. A protein/fat combo snack is best.
You say you are keeping your carbs down low...how low is low? You don't have to be nervous to keep them around 20 a day, as most of your carbs are coming from veggies and those are really good for us.
Have you used Fitday.com yet? Here's a link to help you with it.

Stay off the scale until you are done your first two full weeks...the numbers can bobble around, and that's normal, but there's no point in living and dying by the scale, ya know?
Give this a read as well

All the best to you!

Oh you yankees will never understand us southerners and our NEED for sweet tea! It's not really a "sweets" thing, it's a southern thang!

I use Splenda in my coffee, but for my tea, I use Sweet N Low - don't know why, just seems to taste better to me.

I do try to limit my tea intake because I didn't give up my coffee. I usually just drink water with my meals now, but occasionally I make a pitcher of tea and have some with a meal.

Just remember to drink your water and lots of it, and don't count your sweet tea as a part of your water intake.

Good luck!

I lifted weights last night and felt great.

I stepped on the scale this morning and I am down to 220. I have cut the jello, and starting to eat more instead of just 3 meals a day. I am also limiting the sweet tea with splenda to once a day, after dinner as a kind of reward thing. I am going to start running today, becuase I feel so guilty eating all of this fatty food, yet not running. Thanks for the help!

That whole guilt over eating fatty foods thing is a riot. THis time around, I'm fine with it. But the first time? Whoah. Even though I learned from experience that the more fat I ate, the faster and more I lost, I felt.......WEIRD!!!!!!

You should be able to exercise now. You may find that your endurance is low, but it will pick up within 4 days. You may find, if you do weight training, that you have to go down a bit on the poundage, but that, too, pops back up after a few days! Just remember to drink plenty of water BEFORE and DURING your workout, as well as after!

I didnt run today because I woke up so late(1:30), and only ate 2 meals(wasnt hungry enough to eat 3)

I didnt weigh myself today, and I dont plan on weighing myself for another week.

I am going to work out tomorrow again, and probably run a mile or so and see how I do. Man I really want to get rid of this "baby fat" as my mom calls it
