It doesn't take "alot" of fat to get that 65%. A tablespoon of mayonnaise, or butter, or olive oil, or heavy cream added to your meals will give you that 65%.

| Megs, I've been curious about this as well. I've been under the impression that my weight loss has stalled because my protein portions have been too large. I cut back from 2 eggs at breakfast to 1, 6 oz grilled chicken on my salad at lunch to 4, smaller portions all around, because I consistently found my ratios on fitday to be more like 60/5/35. I remember the part about excess proteins being converted to sugar, and that's what I thought was happening to me, but I'm confused now whether I took the right approach my cutting back my portions. Is it possible that my portions were ok, but I just wasn't being liberal enough with the fat? I'm kinda confused...

| Protein remains constant throughout the diet (and into Maintenance phase). It should be about 30% of your daily caloric intake. It's only the fat percentage and the carb percentage that can be changed. Read the stickie in the OWL forum about the fat/protein/carb percentages. You'll see that you only need to add "alittle" fat to change those percentages.

| yep a little fat changes those ratios dramatically. We eat fat to lose weight and yes while a much higher fat intake would give us faster weight loss it would not be a healthy weight loss nor a healthy body afterwards. Dr Atkins has reasons for picking those ratios and if you look up many of the foot noted studies in his books you will see the 30% mentioned as have exercal other then weight loss effects too such as diuretic effects and muscle building. So do it the good doc's way and use your dietary fats to prime your body fat burning but keep with the fuel octane levles he recommended. Remember cars knock when the fuel octain is too high. I shudder to think what that would equate to in a human. happy low carbing.
