Default Horrible anti-atkins propaganda

Look at this crap:

http://www.health24.com/dietnfood/We...1-85,29095.asp

Garbage... Obviously someone was focused on the induction phase. People look at atkins.. freak out at the induction stage.. and assume the worst.

Stupid.

... and sure.. most of the weight loss is water.. RIGHT! 100 lbs of water! of course! That must be it!

------
Does the Atkins Diet cause rapid weight loss?
Yes, it does. This is due to four factors:

  • People on the diet reduce their energy intake by as much as 500 kcal (2100 kJ) a day. Energy reduction will usually result in weight loss, so the Atkins Diet is not unique in this respect.
  • Most of the weight loss is due to losses of body water and glycogen (the form in which carbohydrates are stored in the body), and will be regained rapidly.
  • The condition of ketosis, which is induced by the high-fat content of the diet, has an appetite-suppressing effect, but such an effect can also be achieved by eating a high-fibre diet.
  • Protein foods are more satiating than fat or low-fibre carbohydrate foods, but this is no reason for eating high-fat protein foods. A moderate increase in lean protein intake combined with high-fibre carbohydrates with a low glycaemic index will also prevent hunger.
Does the Atkins Diet result in permanent weight loss?
No, it does not.

Studies that followed dieters for one year found that the majority had regained most of the weight they had initially lost. The Atkins Diet is, therefore, not a permanent solution to obesity.

In addition, rapid weight loss followed by regain could cause the ‘yo-yo-effect’, which makes it increasingly difficult to lose weight every time you try to diet.

A more permanent solution is to change your lifestyle, to eat low-fat, high-fibre foods, including plenty of fruit and vegetables, unprocessed grains and cereals, and legumes, and to exercise regularly. Such lifestyle changes will result in weight loss, an improvement in overall health, and prevent degenerative diseases.

Angry Re: Horrible anti-atkins propaganda

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

After being on this for 2 years I can tell you they are full of cr@p.

There are a ton of diets that "work" but the sad truth is that no diet works because people want their cakes and eat them too.

The question is "do you like being on Atkins?" If you do, we can help. If you don't there are a ton of other plans you can fail with just as easily.

Sounds like the same vegetarian BS that PCRM keeps spouting out.
Who are in bed with PETA.

Except for the 'low fat' (kinda sorta, it's more 'balanced fat') this is exactly what we are heading for............ dumb people

Uh...I've kept it off over a year because it's not a DIET...it's a way of life!!!! People are too quick to blame anything but themselves. If I went back to the life of eating crap foods and no exercise of course I'd gain the weight back. Unless someone is willing to commit they're going to stay fat. Boo hoo. Don't make a change and they end up with what they've always had. Unless someone embraces Atkins they won't end up with long term success because they obviously skipped out on reading the book! Stick to it...don't cheat...you will be successful. It's so simple it drives me bonkers.
