Default *Sigh*

Well, I've cheated. Was in induction for about 30 hours, was going great. Had a few cravings, but they subsided, and I made it through them. Than, about the worst thing happened.....I work 11pm-7am normally, and I start sunday night/mon morning, so I'm off for the weekend at 7am friday mornings. But, something that NEVER happens, happened. I got a call at 5pm friday night, saying I needed to work (I'm in the military). Apparently they have a plane that needs to get fixed this weekend, and I work support (handling tools, etc.). So we're working 12 hour shifts, and lucky me mine started that night at 12am fri night-12pm sat afternoon (I'm still currently here).

My induction flu had just started kicking in, was able to ignore it before work because I was playing my weekly poker game. Well, went from there to work, and it was getting horrible. At a little after 1am, I got really tired, and my head was pounding. Knowing that I had another 11'ish hours to work, I just couldnt' take it anymore. I tried so hard to eat the food I'd just got at walmart before coming here (ham, a 1carb beef jerky, cheese, and tons of water). But it just wasn't cutting it, and I was fading fast. NOW, if i'd been home, like any other friday night, I'd have just gone to bed, maybe slept in a while longer than normal, whatever. I'd have made it through. Seriously, this is about the first weekend in about 2 years that I've had to work the weekend, with 6'ish hours of notice. I know, it's just as much my fault, but I'd really planned this out, started at a time so that the worst of this would occur between now and when I went back to work.

So, like I said, I cheated, and had a Mt Dew and a reese's pb cup. It really didn't make me feel any better, and now I just feel HORRIBLE that I wasted almost a day and a half . Guess it's right back to where I started. I'm so disapointed in myself.

Try not to feel too bad about it. Accusing yourself won't help. Just take deep breath, drink all your water, and start anew. You can do this!

Sometimes life just kicks you in the butt, Doc
Just jump right back onto the Atkins WOE and remember how bad that slip made you feel so you can avoid it the next time

woops!

Now that you know that the PB cup and soda only made you feel bad it should be easier to avoid next time. A snack that you might try is pork rinds. They aren't sweet, but they got me through my first couple weeks of snack cravings. Four or five of them were enough to stop the craving and acknowledge that I wasn't hungry, just eating out of habit.

Another option.......... tell your boss not to do that again!

Hang in there!

No more beating yourself up. Falling off the wagon gets you a lump on the head, but you get to jump right back on. Weakness is a human thing. I also know about the midnight shifts. I did that for 11 years. It is very hard. Keep your healthy snacks handy and your water. You can do this. Think about what motivated you to a healthier lifestyle and see if that helps you. I know it does for me. Kick up you exercise a little and keep going forward. You can do it!!!!!

Keep on trucking Doc... don't worry about the little battles, focus on the war. In the past, I have just caved in completely once I caved in a little. If you fall off the wagon, get right back on... the longer you stay off the wagon the worse it will get.

and yes I say this from experience

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get right back onto plan. Better for you to have learned the lesson that the sugar foods are not helpful earlier in the plan than later. You learned a valuable lesson early...be thankful...and march on.

Yeah, I almost did that. I started to rationalize with myself "well, I've got a long night, I've already cheated.....might as well just do whatever tonight".....But than I said no. I went back to eating the ham and stuff I'd brought with me, and drinking lots of water. The night passed of course, and here I am almost 24 hours later, and feel fine.

I did regret it at first, but I didn't keep beating myself up over it. I just picked right back up. I even made some really good steaks for dinner earlier, mixing olive oil, some garlic salt, and a few other carb free spices in for the marinade. It was really good, and left me satisfied. When we went to a carnival a bit later, I didn't have a single craving for any of that junk. Daes was craving a funnel cake REALLY bad, but she talked herself out of it (that and we went on a ride that made us both sick to our stomachs lol, that's one way to get rid of cravings!)
