Try putting the EVIL food in one cupboard and 1 place in the fridge. Better yet if you have a separate fridge (we have one in our basement - for pop and extra stuff) That is the only way I have been able to stay away from Diet Pepsi and M&M's.
Hope it helps!

Yep, yep, yep. I have four kids at home, 3 of whom are teens. We have all KINDS of junk and healthy carbs in the house.

Here's what I do:

1. I keep nothing that I can eat in the pantry. I have a shelf above the cups and glasses that has my splenda, flax seed, and cans of tuna. That way, I don't need to see any of the chips, etc in the pantry.

2. I keep nothing in the freezer that I need. Once a week, my dh will take out the frozen meat to thaw for me to cook. Other than getting ice for my water, I have no need to open the freezer.

3. Most of MY food is in the fridge. I prepare on the weekend for most of the week and everything I need to take for lunch, etc. is in tupperware containers on the bottom shelf, and in ziplock baggies in one of the veggie drawers. I keep the cream, sour cream, and cheese in the door of the fridge.

4. The rest of the family's dinners are prepared by me while I am munching away on veggies with ranch dip. While I'm eating something high in fat, I never have a craving for what I am cooking for them.

Honestly, I rarely notice the forbidden foods this way. I know what's for me, where it is, and I never give what everyone else is eating a second thought.

i feel your pain!!! not only do i have to deal with everyone in my house eating CRAP food around me, i AM a teenager (plus a year or two), and all my friends ever want to do is bread and fry things. and drink pop. non-diet pop.

i failed on this diet once, and it's an easy thing to do if you don't keep your goals and why you're on this diet in mind. every time i see my friends or family something i used to love but can't have anymore, i remind myself of why i'm doing this. the fact that looking in the mirror every day and seeing myself fitter, happier and leaner is better than any chocolate or junk food any person could ever try to tempt me with.

the second time around i'm much more successful, because i don't look at the bottom line, where i want to be at the end of it. i look at myself day by day and set little goals, with with gifts for myself when i reach my goals.

don't give in to the junk monster, being the person you want to be is more reward than a quick taste and overwhelming guilt after. happy atkinsing!

The best strategy is to keep eating! Savor and enjoy all of your wonderful food. Eat all of the food from the approved food lists in total abundance and trust the Atkins process. Ketosis is an absolute miracle state of being.

I used to eat all the junk food in the market, cookies, cakes, chips, soda, etc. etc. etc. I used to eat all the fast food. I used to go to drive ins and eat so much junk I hurt. I never met a dessert I didn't like and want 5 servings of.

Now that crapola carbola doesn't interest me in the slightest. I prefer fish. I prefer meat. I prefer veggies and eggs and cheese.

Is it willpower? **** no, I don't have any willpower, never did. It is ketosis - it has altered my palate, my taste buds, my desires. If you stick with Atkins, the day will come when you won't even give that carbage a 2nd glance. It will have no power over you.

Free at last! Free at last!

You will find out that the longer you progress on this way of eating, the more what you find in the pantry and fridge is going to change.

For the time being, habits die hard, and with all those preservatives, so do the pop tarts!

You know what helps me immensely? If it's gotta be in the house, you might as well sniff it!

That's right! When hubby goes to eat a Twinkie, you take the opportunity to take deep whiffs of the wrapper. When yoiu hit your "ahhh" factor, toss the wrapper in the trash... or rub some on your wrists for later sniffing as "Eau De Twinke".

Cleo is a nose person. She sniffs everything. Very sensitive to scents, our Cleo is.

But she's right. Our tastebuds and our sense of smell are linked. Just having a whiff of something yummy is often enough to satisfy, but the key is that you have to give yourself permission to enjoy the smell. If you start inhaling while telling yourself "I can't have this, it's bad, bad, bad", you'll start the insane sugar/carb addict internal dialogue that leads to no-no behavior.

So enjoy the smells, the odors, the scents of that food you are choosing not to eat!

I saw Oprah sniffing both crispy cremes and pecan pie the other day on TV. Did you guys see that? I agree with Cleo and Finelly, seems like a good alternative to eating the stuff. Hey, if you can't eat them, smell them.

Default Re: is any one in the same boat as me?

My kids have their own cupboard and all their stuff gets put in there. It's on the other side of the kitchen from the other cupboards and it's a low one so I never accidentally see anything I don't want to. I don't really buy them much of anything that gets refrigerated. No pop, kool aid or anything like that. They drink mainly water. The breads go into the oven and I only have to touch it when I make them their lunches or need to use the oven. Out of sight, out of mind works well for me.

Also, you'll find that the longer you're on this WOL, the less you'll crave the junk. I've got almost a full 12 pack of regular pepsi in the fridge from when my family came to visit and it doesn't tempt me at all. Just the thought of taking a swig of that sugar laden syrupy ka ka actually makes my stomach turn. My husband brought home some cookies his mom gave him for the kids and when I see it all I can think of how sick it will make me. At first I was a little tempted but the more I saw the kids having them the more I realized I didn't really want any. I just missed being able to mindlessly eat anything I wanted. So I made some flax bread with a little cream cheese and *poof* I got a treat and the cookies might as well be made of cardboard.
