Default :)Restarting. I have a question.

Hey, y'all.

This place has always been an inspiration to me, even when I wasn't following Atkins. Thanks for that.

I have decided to try Atkins again. I tried once and lasted about 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure I lost a lot of weight but at the time I didn't own a scale so who knows.

The problem for me was that the first thing I did was search for all the Splenda/dessert recipes I could find. I know I ate too much of that and too much cream cheese. This time around, I'm going to try to complete cut out sweets. I'll have a Mock Danish once a week or something, as a reward.

Here's the question; I'm 5'8 and weigh about 165. No one believes me when I say I weigh that much; I definitely don't look like I do. Anyway, I was wondering if it's okay to start in a latter rung. Is the induction important? Can I just go straight to eating 20 carbs a day but include whole wheat bread, fruit, yogurt and such?

I guess that's all for now. Feel free to post some good/easy recipes and such or just some words of encouragement. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

It's OK with me, you can do whatever you want, but if you really want to learn how to control your eating you should do the plan "by the book."

Otherwise you're just looking at "More of the Same" issues you have now.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I read somewhere that, according to the book, it's perfectly acceptable to begin in a latter rung if you only have a few pounds to lose. If that's untrue, though, I am willing to just start on induction. It'll be harder but I can do it.

I made a menu for tomorrow.

6:30 -

2 eggs
2 tbs onion

9:00 -

1 cup romaine lettuce
1 tbs parmesan cheese
1 tbs ranch dressing

2:30

1 cup iceburg lettuce
2 tbs vegetable oil
salt/pepper
hard boiled egg

5:30

5 ounce steak
1 cup zuchinni
1 tbs vegetable oil
salt/pepper

According to fitday:

1037 calories

75% fat
5% carbs
20% protein

Is that okay? I forgot what the percetanges are supposed to be. Also, I know lots of people will have 5 eggs, 3 sausages, a steak and more for breakfast. I just can't eat that much that early. Is that going to be a problem? I could always have some more oil or mayo if fat is an issue. I know I might need more calories, too, but I can't think of anything I can realistically add to my menu. What I have written down will leave me full. Any imput is greatly appreciated.

And, yes, water, water, water.

Thanks again.

Hi there! I think you should do a two week induction period in order to help you break cravings/addictions to sweets etc. The percentages we strive for on induction is 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs most of which come from the three cups of veggies you eat (from the acceptable food lists for induction). Your menu looks good however you're a wee bit over on the veggies. (Yes, I'm picky!!). I would think your calories are low. You wouldn't want to be low every day as you may put your body into 'starvation mode'. Perhaps adding some roast chicken or shrimp to your salad. I think you're off to a good start! Welcome back!

I don't recall the book saying that but it's only been 3 years since I read it.

Besides if you don't do Induction you'll miss all the fun!

I think you may be referring to the book "Atkins for life"? I have not read that book, but it is based on just changing your lifestyle to a lower carb way of eating? I know it has a very small section on induction, but does not go into great detail.
Remember when you do not have alot to lose, your rate will be slower. Be sure to make friends with your tape measure!!!
Your calories seem awful low to me also?
