Default I just feel so funny eating fat

OK, I started 2 days ago and I feel so funny eating meats and fats freely (well, at least under Atkins restrictions). I don't think I even feel a difference. Do you think it's possible that my body does not like the Atkins diet??? I know it's only been 3 days, but just wondering when you start feeling good about being on the diet.....mentally and physically. OH yeah, I don't weigh myself, so I don't base my weight on a number....just how my clothes fit. I noticed that i'm not as bloated.

Honestly, it's too early to tell. I think it's great not to be a slave to the scale, however, I do feel it's important to weigh and measure yourself for induction. You want to see where your metabolic resistence lies. Make sure you're eating the three cups of veggies as per the rules of induction and drinking your water. You may go through the 'induction flu' and you really wont' feel so great during those days. You'll get through it and start to feel great with lots of energy once your body goes through that detox process. So, give it some time! Glad to have you aboard.

Hi, Allie, and welcome to Atkins and to ADBB!

I agree with Isabeau. You definitely want to wait a few more days. Some people go into lipolysis and experience induction flu sooner than others.

Some lucky cats never GET induction flu and fly effortlessly into ketosis without the feelings of lethargy and cravings!

Let's hope you're a lucky cat-- but even if you do feel a little bit icky, know that's just your body switching into a lean mean carb-beatin' machine!

Welcome to the board, AllieRichie!

May I make a suggestion? It is one that should take less than 5 solid minutes, but I feel it's important for your peace of mind in embarking on this lifestyle - not to mention self-assurance that Atkins is indeed moving you in the right direction if you are consistent. While you should always look at the Atkins lifestyle in the permanent sense, it's best to "look forward" in your progress in little bits and chunks at a time - particularly in the very beginning. Just take every week as it comes. It's pretty easy to get overwhelmed!

As for my suggestion:
Take four Polaroids of yourself wearing as little as possible: one from the front, side, other side, and back. Weigh yourself. With a measuring tape, measure all over - waist, upper and lower abdomen, every part of each four limbs - and jot it down on the back of one of the photos. Afterward, hide these Polaroids (in a safe, if you must!), and go about Atkins and your physician-approved exercise regime for as long as you can stand it. 1 week? 2 weeks? A month? It's up to you. Don't weigh again, don't measure; however, referring to these Polaroids might keep you from cheating. (Although I recommend keeping them stashed for a nice surprise later!)

Once you've reached the point where you can't stand it any longer and absolutely must check your progress, do all of the above once again, and start comparing. Trust me, your face will hurt from smiling.

I am so glad I did this, because eating fat didn't make sense; being truly satiated from all the different foods I could eat didn't make sense, and the lack of portion control and calorie/fat-restriction didn't make sense. On the other side of the coin, I wasn't a sweets-craver. You never heard me say, "Oh, I'd kill for Jolly Ranchers/Sparro/lollipop." Sure, I loved pasta (my big thing!) and suppose I appreciated potato chips and Snickers - but these sweet and starchy foods simply weren't ones I craved or binged on.

That said, I clearly remember thinking the first week I began Atkins: "This low-carb thing only works for those who eat or are dying for candy and chips all the time. I don't. I'm just inexplicably overweight, even with calorie/fat-restriction and exercise! Cutting out foods I don't even obsess over to begin with won't make any difference." But AllieRichie, sticking with Atkins, following it strictly by the book, caused me to eat my words later. I woke up every morning excited for the next day, gleefully reveling in the control over my weight I was finally beginning to have after years of being heavy.

Believe me, nothing about Atkins made sense to me at first; but after research, experience, and lasting results, low-carbohydrate eating no longer seemed counterintuitive. Conversely, low-fatting and high-carbing that began to seem counterintuitive ... This ironic switch in thinking will happen for you before you know it - and I think you'll welcome it.

<<I don't think I even feel a difference. Do you think it's possible that my body does not like the Atkins diet??? >>

Ahhhh...NO! I think your body DOES like the Atkins diet!! Why, you ask?? Well the simple fact is this...

<<I noticed that i'm not as bloated.>> Fact.

Now...mentally you start to feel better the more confident you get with Atkins....and you get more confident by taking a starting weight and measurements....you could have already lost 3 pounds....and comparing...once at the end of your 2 weeks and then when you feel the need. I measure once a month.

Physically...depends on your induction flu and how long the toxins take to leave your body...everyone is different....for me it was a week.

If you go by the book and read the stickies here and ask if you aren't sure of things this will work for you.
