Snacks are okay to have on this diet. Dr. Atkins said our snacks should be high fat. So things like tuna and mayo, devilled eggs, veggie sticks with a dip are perfect Induction snacks. I think Dr. Atkins even suggested something like a slice of pot roast or any type of leftover. Some people eat pork rinds. The only caution with that is pork rinds are high in salt and might cause salt-sensitive people to retain water (not good!) If you have access to a refrigerator or if you can bring a small insulated bag with you to work, snacks and your meals will be readily available to you. The other thing is that once ketosis kicks in, you might not even feel hungry between meals (so you might not need to snack at all). Ketosis is a natural appetite suppressant so the hoodia might not be necessary. In fact, for many of us, when ketosis kicks in we have to remind ourselves to eat! Finally, you wrote that occasionally you have alot of downtime and that is when you snack. If the snacking is more of a habit (that is out of boredom because it gives you something to do), you might want to consider changing that habit and doing something, like walking around the dealership (count those laps to your daily exercise quota), that will keep you from "eating out of habit".

| Welcome Lavonna, We are so happy you found us. Welcome aboard! After eating the induction foods like advised by the book, you will find that you won't want to snack all the time. This will take a few days(about a week, for me) to get rid of the excess glucose in your sustem. You will be turning your body into a fat burning machine. Eating the induction phase, drinking all your required water, and exercise, you will be seeing wonderful results in no time at all. I will be waiting to see how your 14 days of induction goes. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Happy Low carbing!!! |

| Good luck to you Christine. I suggested that you do something during your downtime like walk around the dealership. D'uh stupid me, it's the middle of winter and it might be too cold for you to walk around outside. So, get yourself a set of hand weights. You can sit at your desk or in a break room and do upper body stuff (bicep curls, etc.). You can also do stuff like lunges, squats, (hey, you can even do jumping jacks and push ups!). It will kill two birds with one stone: you're less likely to snack out of boredom and you'll get a workout.

| Hey LaVonna and WELCOME! So.... I'm not the only new kid on the block then? I'm on day 6 now and by looking at your menu I seem to be eating a whole lot more than you.... now you've got me thinking? I guess, as long as we're eating the foods in the acceptable lists and measuring the things we should we're ok. Any one else care to comment? LOL You know what I've found really helpful? Keeping a journal. I personally use the forum here called Journal Stats, but you can use the one at fitday.com. Keep us posted on your progress. TTFN Loz
