As for being on Atkins and depression, sugar acts as a pain-reliever and can also make you feel better. If you stayed on Induction throughout your previous attempts, you might want to follow Dr. Atkins plan to the letter and move onto the other 3 phases of Atkins where you will be able to eat more sources of natural sugars while you lose or maintain your weight.

| The decision is up to you. Atkins isn't an unhealthy diet as what we eliminate from our foods are just starch, (sugar, white flour and rice) non of which has anything much redeeming in the health department. Now, you can do an unhealthy version of low carb if you don't eat veggies and if you aren't careful and eat a lot of junk food, but if you folllow the plan to the letter, your blood pressure will go done, your cholesterol levels will go down, you will not get diabetes and there are lists and lists of problems that are fixed by low carbing. |

| I know that I sometimes feel bouts of what I call "Atkins depression." Atkins really requires a lot of effort and energy out of me, to the point where sometimes I feel that every minute of my day is taken up by the struggle for weight loss. It causes me to focus on how much weight I've put on over the years and how much I need to take off. Sometimes this frustration and obsession really gets me down and causes me to feel all around miserable and anti-social. When this happens I know I just need to distract myself and push through it, it's the only way; and I KNOW I will feel better eventually. I don't know how much of this you experience, but I thought I'd share and let you know that you're not alone!

| The best thing that I can suggest is to come here.. often, daily even. I'm lucky in that my family is supportive. My husband and kids are very good. My mom and sister don't understand it as much, but still support me. But even with all that, I find that coming here, with others doing the same thing, helps me a lot! Learn as much as you can.. for yourself, and so that you can counter what they say. Maybe one day they will understand how and why this WOE works and why you want to do it. Ask them to read the book. Just remember that this is YOUR life and your success will show them that this is a great WOL!! Much success...
