Default coffee

ok i was seriously going to stop the coffee cold turkey but after about3 hrs of being awake this morning I decided I would try decaf instead of reg.I used splenda instead of sugar.I do not have any heavy cream so i had some non dairy creamer at work the one i choose from said it had 0 gr of sugar and 2 gr of carbs if all i have is that one tsp for the day and if i count it in my carb intake is that ok? sorry i keep asking so many questions but i would rather hear from personal experiences than just reading the book. And Yes I read the book.I also rented the video on DVD and watched it.It was very informative. Thanks again!

Default Re: coffee

hi Kram.

You might want to go 50-50 on the caf and decaf in order to ease your body into a lower caffeine state. Then in a couple of weeks, switch to a 75% decaf, 25% caf, then move onto straight decaf.

As you know from reading the book and watching the video, non dairy creamer is not allowed on Atkins, not only because it's a fake food and because it has carbs--usually in the form of "high fructose corn syrup" or some other added processed sugar, but also because it is made from hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenated oils are those evil "trans fats" that encourage your arteries to clog up.

Get yourself some real cream.

Also, coffee has carbs. Depending on your carb counter, it can have between 0.8-1 net carb per 6 fluid ounces (which is roughly 3/4 cup).

Default Re: coffee

That is the reason I quit coffee when I started the plan. Look how many of your carbs have been eaten up with one cup of coffee. Right now, without even adding the splenda you are up to approx 4 carbs! That is roughly 1/4 of your carbs for the day in induction.
Do it...... just give up the coffee. You will be amazed how much better you feel.
You have been given excellent advise on every post.... from the best of the best here at ADBB. Listen to those who have suceeded. Not2late, Moochie, 2 big..... when they speak I listen! Their success speaks for itself

Default Re: coffee

Bren has a good point!

However, I LOVE coffee - more than ice cream. So, for me, it's well worth the carb count even if it's decaf. I like the hot liquid in the morning and tea just isn't the same.
