Default Food /Sweetner Question

I have been reading a lot of the posts (when I have a chance) and I have two questions:
1.) A lot of posters mention Pepporini in recipes - is there a special kind or any kind that we can use during induction (extended)? I thought Atkins had said to stir clear, but when I re-read is 2002 addition it looks like he allows it (obviously in moderation), but he doesn't really go into detail anywhere in the book... I cannot even find a carb count on it.

2.) Sweetners: When I read the book, the only sweetner he seemed to limit to three was Saccharin, which he says to limit to three. Splenda (sucralose) he does not specifically state a limit, just states to take note of carb count (aprx 1 carb) and include the amount in your daily totals. (page 128-129) Which until last weekend is what I was doing. Is there another part of the book that says limit it to 3.

Side note: I often go through the day with no sweetner, but I occasionally like to have a cup or two of tea and usually use 2 packets per cup. I am trying my best to 'stick' to what Atkins was saying, so I was bumbed a little last weekend I read the limit was 3 on the site..... I had just had two cups (four packets) the day before.

Thanks for any insight.

The carb count on pepperoni will vary depending on what is in it, so you need to check the information on the packaging or if you buy it unwrapped ask the assistant to show you the pack it comes in.

DANDR mentions saccharin as another acceptable sweetener, even though Dr. Atkins preferred sucralose. I think he makes those distinctions because aspartame can stall some people. Regardless, all sweeteners are limited to 3 a day. Maybe you could use 1.5 packets in each tea instead of two?

You may wish to try getting some Stevia for sweetner.
It is much sweeter than Splenda, therefore you use much less, and it tastes fantastic in tea. Plus it won't spike your blood

Thanks for all of the responses. I am going to try to drop it down to 1 1/2 packets and then eventually to 1. (I was using 3 prior to Atkins... I have a love of sweets... or maybe, I really don't like tea that much but it is warm and I like warm.)

I did re-read the induction section and found that the very last page 144 has the limit for sweetners. It is under tips and I think the first time I read it, I thought he was talking about if you were having a problem getting into ketosis.

Thanks again.
