But I like the idea that I could go on extended induction and still go out once in awhile without screwing up my state of ketosis. Could this be too good to be true? I only have the book Atkins Essentials which really only deals with the basic concepts of induction. Thanks

It makes perfect sense....
Fats are broken down into 3 ketone bodies. The ketostix test for only 1 of the 3---aceto
acetic acid.
For your body to get rid of alcohol, it has to break it down into by-products. One of those by-products is
acetic acid.
The acetic acid can give a false positive on the ketostix. Which is why it's very possible to test "positive" on the ketostix.
The other thing too is that our bodies will break down alcohol before it breaks down carbs, fat and protein. But our bodies don't stop carb, fat and protein metabolism while it is getting rid of the alcohol. Our bodies will will metabolize these things and store them for later use. The storage form of carbs, fats and proteins are glycogen or more body fat.
