Question Jello..??

Hi there... I am fairly new here and was curious if sugar-free jello is allowed during induction?

Default Re: Jello..??

that is a trick question Jello is aspartame sweetened and not allowed but jello the generic term for any flavored gelatin is if it is sugar free. we have some recipes in the data base for making your own if you can't find an aspartame free version.
If you are plaining to have this as a daily sweet treat remember inductoin uis the time to kill your sweet thooth and as Dr Atkins said in one of his books desserts and sweets are to be occasional treats not every day events.

What if the ONE thing that blows it for a person is NOT having sweets??? What if someone (like me, lol) has tried, tried, tried ... followed induction to a tee ... but the ENTIRE time has LONGED and NOT killed the sweet tooth!!! And ... with all of the low-carb deserts and treats out there ... WHAT does one do to just refuse that one thing??? This is SO HARD!!! I have been such a FAILURE on this diet ... it works when I do it but ... I just CAN NOT kill the sweet tooth! I am about to just accept weighing 220 and be done with it. Ugh! HOW DID YOU GUYS HONESTLY DO THIS???

There is jello that is sweetened with splenda, I thought that was allowed? I think its Hunts brand.

Default Re: Jello..??

You are only allowed three servings of Splenda per day on induction, so I suppose theoretically you could have it but you'd have to limit it to whatever three sweetener servings would be and that's a toughie.

Induction is a good time to break all those bad sweets habits (I have a very bad one, I must admit, but I'm trying to get it under control and am out of induction for a few months now). It's only two weeks! 14 little days. We get through it because we know there's a whole rainbow of foods waiting to gradually be introduced on the other side, because we know we're going to look and feel better, and because, well, it's a challenge!

The only way I made it through induction without going after sweets was substituting the mock danish. It worked for me. Personally, I think the sugar free jello is ok too, but it is good to stretch yourself and see if you can remove the cravings for sugar altogether. If you stick faithfully to induction foods your palate will change and you won't crave sugar anymore.

To Apopson,

I've told this story a thousand times, but pre-Atkins I used to say shamelessly that "I NEED to have chocolate in the house, or I get nervous."
Through Atkins I realized that I was hopelessly addicted to sweets...they were my comfort, my solace, my celebration, my reward...they were what I turned to for every emotional need I had.
When I realized what I was doing to myself (and mind you, this is after countless years of believeing I was NOT an emotional eater) I knew I had to make a change.
To think that I was allowing a food...a FOOD to rule my life like that...well...when you stap back, it's pretty ridiculous.

My strategy was to stick by the Rules of Induction, the Acceptable Foods list and the sweetener limit. This effectively eliminated any processed low carb treats out there, so they were off limits.

I made the choice to NOT make any home-made low-carb treats...even if they were technically legal because I didn't want my life to return to revolving around a food again.
If I craved something, I would eat a fat/protein combo...like an egg, or some cheese and pepperoni....I would allow myself to eat...but I wouldn't give my body what it was specifically asking for.

Was this fun? Oh heck no...we had some tense evenings at our house while I was going through my withdrawal and then the subsequent mourning period. It was hard dealing with the fact that I wasn't going to be turning to the treat cupboard after a good/bad/tense/stressful/exciting day.

And I've done it! I've kicked the habit!
I now will make low carb treats ( and very occasionally have bought them...but gosh, I'm really cheap...lol..and they're usually so pricey) and I actually FORGET I have them in the house!
I am worlds away from the person I was when I started this and I'm so happy.

That's pretty much the way I did it too. I just had to suck it up and stop. It wasn't easy but I stuck to the rules of induction and even though we could have the three servings of artificial sweetener per day, I had to stay away from them. A year and a half later, I may have one serving per week.
