| I cut out my favorite part of the explanation but the link is here if you want to read the entire post( http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...s+retain+water (Explanation of the WHOOSHIE) ): ...let me tell you what happens when you lose a pound of fat. Your body has been saving this fat for that long hunting expedition you're going to have to go on to track, kill, dress and retrieve that huge animal. It keeps the fat in little pillows distributed throughout your body. When you start losing fat, it doesn't trust you to continue whatever insane path you have chosen that is causing the fat to dissipate. So, when the fat comes out of the pillow, it injects water as a "place holder." Sometimes that water actually replaces the weight of the fat it lost. Sometimes it replaces the volume. Water weighs more than fat just like lead sinkers weigh more than feathers. If you stuff a pillow with a pound of feathers, you'll have a nice big pillow. If you stuff a pillow with a pound of lead sinkers, you'll have a nice (but rather hard and uncomfortable), small pillow. Now, let's say your body removes a pound of fat and replaces the weight with a pound of water. Your weight will stay the same, but you will be smaller. But, if your body decides to replace the lost fat by volume, that is a quite different story. Remember the great big feather pillow as compared to the tiny lead sinker pillow? Well, now think of a gallon of feathers and a gallon of lead sinkers. Try to pick up the gallon of feathers. Piece of (you'll pardon the expression) cake. Now, try to pick up the gallon of lead sinkers. Sucker's heavy, ain't it? So, you will be smaller, but you will have gained weight. Eventually, your body makes the executive decision that you are not going to replace the fat you lost, and it lets go of the water. In the words of Danny Skaist: "When your body accepts the fact that they are no longer needed, the water will be expelled and the cells closed. This is known as the "whoosh.".... This is a helpful link: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5090 (Weight loss is not linear) Also, moderator Not2late wrote this: Remember weight loss is measured by the loss of pounds OR by the loss of inches. In fact, Dr. Atkins wrote that the loss of inches was more representative of fat loss because losing inches correlated with the fat emptying from your cells. | By the way, WAY TO GO!! You are doing great! 6 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. You could be sitting on the sofa 6 pounds heavier, binge eating while wishing you could just get started! Just think, you are aiming for 27 pounds gone so you have already accomplished morethan 20% of that! If you are still worried, you could post some more specifics like menus, etc...

| I treat this the same as I do housework, believe it or not. If I thought, oh I have to clean 10 rooms, I'd die. If I thought every day, Oh, I have to lose so many more pounds, I'd go nuts. Instead I think... ONE MORE POUND GONE! And, one less I have to lose. (As in, every thing I do, is something I don't have left to do)

| I am having a problem, It has been 4wks since induction and I lost 10lbs., so I decided to extend it till now, only the scale will not budge! I've been testing with ketosis strips and they turn mauve but never deep purple, I am wondering what could be wrong, I weigh 170, and I started at 180. The only elaborate thing I've done with the diet is I started making mock danish for breakfast, has anyone else had this experience? Should I do the Fat Fast? Desperately awaiting advice! |

| If you to to the section for having your menu reviewed, and include water intake, you can post some menus that will help weed out any possible problems! Stalls after induction are not unheard of, but seeing what you're eating might provide some clues.

| woo hoo tina great start. Cypress explained it well. iris42801 it is very normal to have a post induction hesitation in scale weight check your inches for the same reasons cypress posted above apply to you as well. you don't say how many pounds you need to lose but 10 pounds is a big change for somebody weighing 180 pounds. keep wori=king your Atkins both the eating and the exercise part, drinking your water, taking your supplements, and feeding only your hunger and you too will be a loser on Atkins again. Happy low carbing..

| Iris, 2big is right to say that a 10 pound loss for someone weighing 180 pounds is a very good result for 4 weeks of induction You have lost over 5% of your TOTAL body weight - and it is suggested that on the first 14 days of induction we will lose between 5% and 10% of the amount we need to lose - so you are well ahead of the game here What goal weight do you have in mind?
