| Hi Jane, hopefully you will no longer be confused. Please see attached thread which will explain the "cups" measurements better. Being in the uk myself, I had the same experiences as you are going through. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=1461 (US/UK measure guide and conversion tables) But together we will crack it..... | Also I saw somewhere that if you go to google and type 1 cup to grams it will convert it. Works for all the measurements. X grams to ounces. X pounds to kilograms, etc.

| Hi there 13 Jane, When I first tried this way of eating, like you, I tried to figure these things out by myself. Now it's so easy because I use http://www.fitday.com You enter you're food choices and it tells you the percentages of fat/carbs/protein, so you can adjust portion sizes to fit. It also allows you to add a new food not catagorized, provided you know the cal/carb/protein/fat content per serving (it's on the label of the food container you choose) so your preferences can be included. If you find it too confusing to start PM me and I'll walk you through it. I also use http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/conversions.htm for ANY measurement issues as it's international. Again PM me if you need help getting started on it artangel

| Welcome Jane - you aren't thick at all - it is confusing at first and it does take some effort to learn to eat the Atkins way. Of course you can have chicken and cheese. On induction you can have liberal amounts of meat, fish, eggs, 4 ounces of cheese and 3 cups of veggies per day. Its that simple. For me, it works best to have some veggies along with your meat or fish or at every meal. But you can combine them anyway you want to. The important thing is to eat and stay full! I prefer to cook my eggs in some butter as chicken is chock full already of healthy yummy meat fat and makes its own juice. But whatever works for you. Cooking is an important skill to learn for Atkineers and its great to hear you are cooking. Good luck! |

| Hi All Thanks so much for all your help and advice - its really appreciated!! I think I've finally worked it out!! I think I may have been eating too much salad!!! My cup sizes were more like oversized mugs!!! But I've been checking my ketones, which have been in the pink/purple since the start so I'm not going to worry too much. I'm going to try and have 1 cup of veg, protein and fat at everymeal - I tend to melt cheese over my evening meal - which makes it very palatable indeed!! Of course all depends on what I have!! lol! Thanks again everyone think thin Jane x

| Hi there Being in UK, i was totally confussed what it meant when mentioned 1 cup. I have a mug and 1 teacup and never knew which one was right. If I was using a mug, I feared I was consuming too much, and if I was using a tea cup I was consuming too less. After asking many questions and with the help of ADBB I found out that when the book mentions 1 cup it means, A standard measuring cup for liquids is eight fluid ounces. You can you check it out by pouring water from one cup and measuring it. Also please keep an eye on the cheese, you are limited with your cheese intake during induction. Good work and keep it up.
