| Tina, There are a couple things I do. Everyone is different, of course, but I just cannot get cold water down. So, first thing in the morning I fill me up a big glass (20 oz) of water from the tap and drink it down. This usually isn't hard because I'm soooo thirsty in the morning. Then before I leave for work, I'm taking my vitamins, so I drink down another 20 oz of water with those. I grab a couple bottles of water, or I also have a big ole 74 oz jug that I fill up and drink those by the end of the night. I've found the more water I drink, the thirstier I am and the more I will drink. In the beginning when I get a craving, I drink alot of water to see if my problem is thirst and not hunger. If, after drinking that water, I still wanted something to eat, I did. This helped me teach myself about the difference between thirst and hunger cravings. However, you must eat on this plan. It is not about starvation or about deprivation. In fact, Dr. Atkins says we must eat something (even if its a piece of cheese, a piece of meat or veggies and dip) every six waking hours to stabilize your blood sugar. Only eat to satisfy your hunger or to stabilize blood sugar (at the six hour mark) and you'll be fine. It's one of the great things about this WOE is the natural appetite suppression.

On Atkins you eat only that amount to satisfy your hunger. As Dr. Atkins wrote in Chapter 11 DANDR 2002 Quote:
As for water, don't ever "chug" a large amount at one time. Instead, sip the water throughout the day. Keep in mind, ketosis acts as a diuretic, so you will be losing water and you will need to replace it.

| I learned the hard way. When I started...I was eating and eating and eating until I could pop. Did I gain weight? No. Did I lose weight? Yes...BUT...I was always feeling uncomfortable until I stopped doing it...and now my weight is dropping at a much faster rate. Don't overeat...but the beauty of this WOE is...if you DO overeat...it won't cause you the kind of heartbreak that overeating sugars will cause you. |

| I forgot to add, prioritize your vegetable consumption. In other words, make sure you eat those 3 cups of vegetables daily and make sure you eat them with some fat and protein. It takes only a tablespoon of added fat to make a meal over 50% fat. So you don't need to eat cups of mayonnaise or pounds of butter daily.
