| According to Dr. A. You need to count a serving of spenda as 1 carb. Now, how many serving on the can? You will have to read the can. Remember you are only allowed 3 servings of splenda on induction! And....... IMHO, skip the soda and drink more water!

| I noticed in your signature you say you are going over the 3 cup lettuce rule..... The rule actually refers to 'salad vegetables' and is not limited to lettuce alone. Make sure you are getting a wide variety of vegetables from the two veggie lists so you are getting all the various nutrients and fiber that they offer. If you must eat lettuce, skip iceberg and choose dark leafy's, like Romaine, leaf lettuce, or spinach. Don't stress about going over the 3 cup veggie limit....the first level of OWL is to add 5 more carbs of veggies a day, so it's certainly not bad if you go over a bit. Nobody got fat eating fresh peppers or radishes, right? And I agree...if you have a soda habit, this is the time to get that junk food monster off your back. If you're having say, one or two sodas a week, no worry...but if this is a daily thing, you might want to re-evaluate why you feel the need to put that in your body. From a nutritional standpoint, it gives you nothing. Making your own iced green tea would be better for you if you need a cold drink other than water. And...(look out, I'm on a roll here...lol) remember only water counts towards your 64+ ounce per day requirement. ok..done lecturing...lol |

| Thank you for all the advice. All I drink is water - literally. Every fluid I drink is water. Before the Induction, I would not drink a lot of soda, but again, I would like to drink a soda every once in a while, and to that end, I would like to know what the exact Splenda level is. It appears it is not widely known. Perhaps if I ask this in a different way, does a can of Diet Rite contain the equivalent of 1 packet, two packet? In reading the can, all it tells you is that it contains Splenda. Once aqain, I look forward to your input. |

| Ok, I've finally got the 'skinny' on the Diet Rite Product and the ACTUAL carbs contained therein. McNeil, the manufactuer of Splenda creates this product in two forms, the powder, measureable form, and the pure liquid sucralose form. In the pure form that are ZERO literal carbs. In the pourable powder form, there are the equal of one carb per packet. Where does the carb come from? From the "fillers" used to bulk the product up for volume. When soda manufacturers purchase "Splenda" for their colas, they are purchasing it in pure liquid form (there is no need for fluff/filler agents), and therfore the can of Diet Rite has ZERO literal carbs per can. This took a lot of looking in to, the Diet Rite customer service reps would not talk about content of anything because the information is "Proprietary" - of course. But, the gem of information comes in knowing that soda manufacturers use pure sucralose on the creation of the cola, and unless you see the words "maltodextrin" the filler, then you are dealing with a PURE Sucralose product, and therfore you are drinking ZERO CARBS! Time to crack open a Diet Rite cola (Without Guilt or Concern). By the way, I do not consider a cola product that has zero calories, zero carbs, zero sodium, to be Junk Food. Coke or Pepsi in original form, or with Asperteme is junk food in my book. I hope this helps everyone that enjoys cola and misses the refrashing taste! Mark |

| Guess I have to post it again Concerns come with people who have cravings triggered by sweet things. If you crave sweet, then sweet is sweet. It starts a chain reaction and then you want more sweet. No matter how many carbs, calories, caffeine, etc, your brain senses sweet, and in some people this is bad. Also carbonated water, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, potassium benzoate (preservative), potassium citrate, sucralose (Splenda brand, a non-nutritive sweetener), acesulfame potassium (Sunett Brand, a non-nutritive sweetener), caramel color, red 40, blue 1 Nutrition facts: Calories 0; Total fat 0g; sodium 0mg; total carb 0g; protein 0g Those are the ingredients and nutrition facts for a diet rite kiwi. Many people who've found Atkins to be the Way and the Word are advocates for natural also. Potassium Benzoate: "It is approved for use in most countries including Canada, the U.S., and the EU. In the EU, it is not recommended for consumption by children" Potassium Citrate: "is chiefly employed as a non-irritating diuretic" acesulfame potassium: "calorie free artificial sweetener" This is why you're going to find resistance. I'm glad you found something you enjoy, but there are a lot of people here who have found that artificial color, flavor and so on is detrimental to their health.

So you need to check the label on your particular can and count one carb per whatever amount it says is one serving! Hope this helps.

| Since this has been posted in several other forums I'm locking this one down as it's been discussed at length elsewhere. |
