Default Newbie

Hi everyone,

Well I have been reading this board and it is very informative and very inspiring.

I started my induction on Mon (5/ weighing in at 208 lbs. (sigh)

Okay I can do it. I have tried many diets and nothing works - so hoping that Atkins will help me reach my goal.

I'm having trouble drinking so much water. I always thought I drank lots of water but apparantly not enough.

Good luck to all and keep up the good work.

One thing you can do to help get water down, is to drink 8oz. at the top of each hour. 8oz. is an itty bitty cup, so it's pretty easy to get down in a few minutes, then you don't have to worry about it again for another hour, and spread out over the day like that made it a lot easier for me. It won't be long before you'll wonder how you ever managed to make it through the day on so little water!

If you're really having trouble getting the water in, do or eat something that makes you thirsty! (Some of my favorites are a brisk walk, porkskins, cheese, and meat)

You could try eating something salty before bed - then you'd retain water; or you might be up 3+ times during the night to drink water...

Or, try getting in the bulk of your before supper?

I just wanted to say hello and welcome aboard. Good luck with the water, it's hard but you'll get used to it. I usually have a tall glass of water with breakfast and then for the rest of the day I keep an Extreme Gulp cup with me full of water all the time LOL it holds 52 ozs. I agree with Boonie about the pork skins, they will make you thirsty.

I've always prefered water over softdrinks and other beverages anyway, so it's been easy for me. However, after a few days, you'll likely be so constantly thirsty that water will become appealing. It's almost instantly gratifying--as in you feel less thirsty after drinking it right away as opposed to sweetened waters. I do what's been suggested already; drink 8 ounces or so at the tap and then take another 8 with me. If I do this every two hours at work, I've had a good 80 ounces before I even leave for home.

IMO the more water you drink, the more you'll crave. I think its hard in the beginning because your body is trying to hold on to all the water you put into it because it hasn't had enough in so long. Kind of like a thirsty man in the desert. It hoards the water.

Once it figures out that you're going to give it water on a regular basis (think all day), it will quit holding onto it. At that point, you'll be thirsty all the time and have no problem getting it down.

And, if you only drink flavored drinks AFTER you've gotten all your water in...I think you'll find that the sweet drinks are just wayyyy too sweet.

Good luck!
