Default From low-carb to all-carb! ACK!

Today would've been Day 19 of my return to Atkins, but because we have family visiting from California, eating the right food and drinking 100oz of water has been totally impossible.

We took them to dim sum at NYC's Chinatown where I first started out OK, but ended up partaking of the shumai, dumplings, and (gasp!) sesame balls and egg custard for dessert. If that wasn't bad enough, I ended up having 3 or 4 buttercream-frosted cupcakes until dinner, since we took them to our/their favorite bakery (Cupcake Cafe), and for dinner I shared 3 slices of pizza from the best pizza shop in Brooklyn.

I am soooo screwed up at this point. I can't exactly explain it, but I could literally feel myself fall out of ketosis!

Tomorrow, hopefully, I'll be able to control my carb cravings (after today's carbfest). Any suggestions? I really need HELP at this point! And I was doing so darn well so far! Argh

Move on from here and remember this feeling well. That is motivation right there to resist temptation the next time something like this happens. Since you faltered while out in public, being at home not having any of the bad foods, I think you should be ok. Good luck.

Pick yourself up, dust your pants off, and move on. You can't undo today, you can only DO tomorrow.

So do it well!

I know the feeling! Similarly, I happily managed a 16 day induction ... then I fell off the wagon. Now I'm struggling and not winning (or losing)!

Make it a one day mistake. Don't let the mistake carry over to the 2nd day!!!!
Stop! (I wish I had ...)

Ok so you fell. Tomorrow starts at dawn. Don't let today ruin your tomorrow. Own what you did, but don't beat yourself up to the point where you give up. You owe it to yourself to get back and keep on track. Do some extra exercise tomorrow. It will help in at least three ways. 1. you are going to burn up those carbs and get yourself back on the way to ketosis. 2. you will feel like you are doing something positive for yourself!! 3. You will release endorphins into your system....calming and positive feelings will follow. Oh and 4. Exercise is a natural appetite supressent so it may even help to avoid cravings.

Good luck!!

Also take this as a lesson to plan ahead. If you are going to be in a resturant, then think about what will be available to you to eat. Then stick to what you decided to have before you entered the place. If there isn't really anything you could eat there, then choose somewhere else to eat at. If you are going to be around tastey and tempting carbs, then make sure that you have an atkins snack with you so that you can munch on that instead of cupcakes etc. Think ahead so you don't leave yourself hanging in midair next time.

Also, you have to drop the 'impossible' from the above story. You made a choice to go off so don't excuse yourself because family was in town. By the same token, don't wallow in the fact that you fell. Like the others have said, remember it well and it can carry you through times in the future when you are tempted.

I have been there myself and the one thing I carry with me is how hard it is to get back on! Sheer mental torture! After finally dragging myself back up on that wagon, I am holding on for dear life no matter hw bumpy the ride

Did you complete the first 14 days of Induction before you fell off? If so, write down your results (pounds lost and inches lost). Those results are important because you will use them to figure out your degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss and will help you plan the remainder of your Atkins.

You can never "re-do" induction, in the sense, that your results the first time around are the most accurate indicators of your degree of metabolic resistance. See, for some people, the more they fall off and re-start, their degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss increases and the harder it is for them to get back into ketosis.

But don't let that worry you. This time, you'll need to be stricter with your Induction.

Also, we all live. So things like birthday parties, weddings, anniversary parties, unexpected company, depressing news, happy news will all come up. Therefore, we need to be prepared for anything that might serve to derail us. Over the weekend, I had a wedding rehearsal dinner friday night at an Italian restaurant, a wedding dinner on saturday, and a christening with a lunch at a Chinese restaurant. There was plenty of "food", like breaded fried things, sugary desserts, etc. But I avoided them because those foods and eating those foods are the reason why I'm on a diet to begin with. I look at those things and see the 240 pound Megs looking right back at me.

Put yourself first. You are more important than a doughnut or a piece of cake.

Is is so important on Atkins that we speak with kindness to ourselves.
Would you say this to a friend who had had a bad day? We must be our own best friend.

I see no reason for one difficult day to derail you from more positive choices for the future.

How about affirming "I am so enlightened at this point"!

Next time take your friends out for a nice steak.
