Default Re: what do you guys think about carb cycling?

In my opinion, its preposterous. An absurd attempt to get back to carb junking.

Dr. Atkins knew what he was doing. Trust his wisdom.
Follow his book, follow his plan, do it exactly, and find success.

Modify the plan by giving into your cravings and soon find yourself back in trouble. At this stage in the game, there are no good carbs. Until ketosis modifies your palate, forbidden food sets up totally unwelcome cravings. Do NOT give into it.

There is no inbetween. You either choose to nourish yourself with healthy food that doesn't cause your body to frantically shunt junk to fat stores, or you sabatoge your own true love. Take it seriously. Do Induction as Dr. Atkins wrote it - it works.

It takes approximately 2-3 days to get into ketosis. Then you have like what 2 days to burn and then you going to take yourself out of ketosis and have to start all over. Seems to be a big waste there.

I don't think about it at all. I feel great eating this way, why would I want to change it?

I'm all for ketosis. I mean, 5 days in and I am already 10 pounds down. Why would I want to add in anything that would stop that ride until my 14 days are done? (Since I have over 100 pounds to lose I may even extend my induction)

I've never read anything in the Atkins books about "carbcycling". I don't think it's a good idea to put anything extra into the diet when the original obviously works wonders.

Just my opinion here.

It's definitely not the Atkins plan. I wouldn't do it. Atkins works for me, the way the Dr. wrote it...and that's what I'm doing. If the plans working for me, I'm not going to start making my own rules.

The only good thing about the principles of carb cycling, is that it suggests that if you shock your system with the carbs, that you will acheive a big weight loss spike... some carb cycling plans suggest, though, that only once a month, rather once a week, is optimal... I don't carb cycle though, partly because even though it's supposed to have some weight loss effects, it can be really wretched for your health, and I do Atkins because it improves my health and not just to satisfy my vanity.

In my opinion, there's way more bad than good in carb cycling.

I don't think it is a good idea. However, in the past I have noticed that after several weeks of Atkins, if I cheat and have one normal meal (for example on my birthday I went and had italian, talk about carbs) and the following week I lost more weight than I had since induction.

However, I also noticed that I was tired and dizzy and had induction flu all over again and it was much harder to stick with Atkins once I cheated. In fact, that was the reason I probably ended up failing. Once you're in ketosis and you're doing well, don't purposely jeapordize it.

Absolutely, Stephanie... that kinda carb overload chaos can really whittle down your willpower to have even one foot still in the Atkins door.

This is a duplicate thread to one in SATC.
