| I did a quick google for multidextrose and some pages for bodybuilders trying to put weight on came up!! I imagine with the dextrose ending to the word it is some kind of added sugar.

| Just about any ingredient that ends in -ose is a sugar. Potato starch and milk are often also used in taco seasonings. Next time, use paprika, chili powder, cumin, and onion powder...just about anything that comes mixed has some additional filler stuff that you don't need or want in your body. |

| Yes, maltodextrin is a form of sugar, so you'll want to avoid it. Here's a good recipe for making your own taco seasoning: http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/seas...for_tacos.html |

| most of the carbs in your mix are from the actual spices themselves. Many new tro Atkins folk are shocked when they discover spices have carbs.

| I found that out the first time around and mentioned it to my dad who was also shocked about the carbs since he had considered it a seasoning! I found though that Emeril's Southwest seasoning tastes just like chili powder and has no carb or anyting with -ose at the end! I use it just like I would chili powder! |

| wrong!!!!! See this is what I'm talking about newbies thinking spices don't have carbs it has carbs about 3 for a tablespoon. if you look the serving size on the bottle is like 1/4th t but if you use it like chilli powder you will be using more then that and poof you got hidden carbs. You can download the recipe from the food network and make your own and punch up the carb count for it like I did. WWW.FOODTV.COM Quote:

| If you want to use prepackaged taco seasoning look for this one next time http://www.luzianne.com/template_buy_product.cfm?ID=59& The only ingredients are: Ingredients: comino, garlic, ground chili peppers, onion, oregano, salt. Even with those ingredients it has 3 carbs per 2 tsp! The package contains 6 servings so the whole package would be 18 carbs. Yes, spices do have carbs!

| I am not a newbie by any means.. I did atkins for 6 months in college but had cut so many carbs out (yes I know mistake) by being fanatical about every carb I ate that I would pass out so I stopped by the insistence of my doctor. So I consider the southwest seasoning a good subsitute. |

| Okay, now I'm a bit confused. Obviously I understand the posts about taco seasoning thus far.......but....regarding the post and "newbies dont realize that spices have carbs too"....does that mean we have to count those carbs in our 20 allowed per day?????????????? I mean, the way im reading some of these posts....every single little thing has carbs in it....the 20 allowed get used up with my first breath of air in the morning....what am I allowed to eat then??? So if I make my own sugar free, starch free spice mix....I have to count those carbs against my 20 as well??????? Just want to make sure I'm understanding that part correctly. |
