Default 20g on induction.

The book states to eat 20 grams of carbs on induction. Out out curiousity, I counted the calories too (just for fun, and yes i know Atkins is not calories based) and my calories seem WAY low...less that 1000 per day. That just doesn't seem good.

Any ideas?

actually the book does not say to eat 20 grams of carbohydrates. it says you can eat up to 20 net grams of carbohydrates with the majority of them coming from your veggies. it also says you should eat healthy fats and proteins to satisfy your hunger.

So did you satisfy your hunger with your foods? did you eat your 3 cups of veggies with healthy fats and proteins?

It also says if you are not hungry and it has been 6 hrs since your last meal have a small protein/fat snack with some of your carbs. are you doing that?

You will not go in to starvation mode eating below 100 cals for a day or 2 with all the excess fuekl you have stored on your body in the form of fat as long as you satisfy your hunger and don't feel fatigued you are fine. your body will tell you when it is hungry and wants more fuel.

Happy low carbing.

I can't imagine how you are eating everything you are supposed to eat, in LIBERAL portions and keep the cal count so low. I'd reccommend posting one or two of your exact menus in the forum - something isn't right. Are you including some butter? Eating the meat fat? Getting 4 ounces of cheese? Including avacados and olives in your menus?

You should be very full on this program all the time. When you eat everything you are supposed to be eating the cal count is usually high. So let us have a look see at what you are actually eating everyday.

Keep a daily diary of what you eat and read up on what 2big's sharing with you...you'll be amazed that you may even go over the 1,000 calorie limits (I know I've hit well above 1800 when I'm "starving") by the types of foods you choose to get in your carbs and fats based on you hunger. Best wishes!

We're supposed to eat until we're satisfied, not full. If you are satisfied, feeling good, and eating your veggies and your ratios are where they need to be, don't worry. Your body will tell you when you need to eat more. Eating for the sake of eating isn't something I'm a big fan of. Dr. Atkins said not to go more than 6 hours without eating, but that doesn't mean it has to be a meal.

There are many times, many days, that I'll eat between 700-1200 calories a day and be absolutely satisfied. There are other times when I'll hit upwards of 1800-1900 calories in a day. Listen to your body and you'll do just fine. As 2big said, you're not going to go into starvation mode (a debatable phenomenon, for the record) so long as you're feeding your body regularly.

plug all you food into a software program that will count it for you and then see if you are really under 1000 cals with your fats at the 65% level and eating those 20 grams pretty hard to do since for a 20 grams of carbs or a minimum of 80 cals worth if they have no fiber that would correspond to 1600 cals to be in the correct Atkins ratio for induction of 65% fats and 30% proteins.

most of use don't always have 20 net grams a day during induction but we do have our 3 cups of veggies some healthy fat sources and proiteins. When you aren't hungry and it has been 6 hrs Dr Atkins says to have a small snack of protein/fat with some of your carbs (veggies). Your body will tell you when it needs more food if you listen to it. fatigue or tiredness is a big clue you need to eat more and Dr Atkins even wrote he told those folk to eat more food and they were the only folk he told that too.

Wow, that's low. I always average about 2000, 2200 cals per day.

I can't imagine eating this diet AND staying low cal. I didn't think that was possible?
