| If you eat a high fat protein or carb food (like eggs or avocadoes), you typically don't need to add additional fat. For example, a large hardboiled egg is high fat, adding mayonnaise is overkill. But if you eat leaner meats, then you will need to add the fat. There is a sticky at the top of the forum that explains how much fat you need to eat. Typically, if you add 1 tablespoon of fat (butter, mayo, olive oil) to your meal, it will be about 50-60% fat by calories.

| yep don't do a low fat Atkins as your extra cals will be protein and your body will convert them to sugar and that will lead to unstable bloos sugar and no ketosis. onl;y 65% of your total cals for the day need to be fats and they can come from mixed protein fat foods like beef, pork, poultry and fish. but don't eat mayo by the jar or butter by the stick. that isn't Atkins. eat only enough food to satisfy your hunger at the time you are eating and stop even if you got food on the plate room in your belly or carbs in your budget. you will be surprised how littel it will take to satisfy your hunger once your ketosis kicks in. happy low carbing

| So based on what you're saying... don't skimp on the fat especially during induction.. but those fats are better to come from meats, olive oil, eggs, etc... as opposed to mayo, etc. ? |

| well it is a little late BUT the answer is figure it out as you eat it. If one egg and some sald satisfies your hunger then that is all you need. if it takes more then eat more. remember stretching the stretch receptors in your stomache are not an indicator of hunger satisfaction only that you ate enough food to extend the size of your belly so don't use fullness as your control method. What I'm saying is to use natural fats and check your foods on a free site like www.fitday.com and see how much fat you got according to fitday you have 70% of your cals from fat 29 from protein and 1 from carbs. eggs actually are a high fat food 60%. then if you add salad dressing to your spinach salad you'd be up to 76% fats so you don't need to worry about adding any fats to those foods. But if you used say only 2 egg whites and lean ground beef and low fat salad dressing then you are only at 45% fats and need to add some fat to get to the 65% fats inductees should be having.
