| jenny, don't get discouraged. Your body's weight normally should go up throughout the day. As you eat and drink it will be reflected on the scale. Also you will have weight variations during your tom(time of month). It's just a part of life. As for measurements, go ahead and take them now, it will still be encouraging to see the change a month or two down the road. I usually weigh once a day first thing in the morning after using the bathroom, this is the most accurate way to keep track of a 'base' weight. over a few months time you know'll when your retaining water etc and you won't have to worry about it. take care and good luck!

| Hi Jenny When I started Atkins I couldnt resist getting on the scale eveery time I passed it and of course noticed the massive fluctuations at various times of the day. If you think it is going to upset you and tempt you to go off plan (particularly if you see the scales go up and stay up at the same time 2 days on the trot) try to avoid getting on them more than once a week. There is a 2 weeks 'no weigh' challenge you can join to wean you off the need to constantly weigh, BTW. click on the link in my signature to join it. However if you can't stop jumping on the metal monster, why not log the reading every time you get on it and see if you can discover your own body's pattern of ups and downs. I was intrigued by seeing it move up and down over the days and weeks, and seeing it go down slowly despite the ups made me less concerned about individual readings and more relaxed and trusting of the WOE.

| Hey Jen! I found the same thing...during the course of the day your weight fluctuates up because of food and fluid. So, the first thing I did was stop weighing during the day -- morning only, after a trip to the bathroom and nekkid. Like someone said earlier, that is your base weight. No need to panic.

| As you can see for yourself, the scale is deceiving. Why don't you measure yourself now so that in a week or so you can see the inches melting? When the pounds weren't moving for me, it was always a big boost to see the inches coming off. One thing that makes a big difference in the way you feel is exercise. I found that once I got into the habit of exercising, I felt mentally better about myself.

In the FAQ's forum is a good post on the scales. AND.......they do lie somedays! IF you can find the strength.........stay off the scale until your induction is over. In order to have actually gained that amount of weight in a few hours you would have had to eat over 18,000 calories? NOT! see the scales can be evil! There are many physical reasons for this. MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOUR TAPE MEASURE!

| I got frustrated my second week when the scale stopped dropping. I took measurements then and have been surprised at the inches I've lost the past two weeks even though I've only seen an slight additional drop in pounds. I'm a scale addict like you, but I am starting to doubt my scale and trust this WOE.

| JennyB, you are so pretty...I have been dealing with the scales alot, for both myself and my daughter. I learned something in this traumatic time...I learned where to put my focus. I focus on my eating plan for the day, I focus on the weather, and whether I should go for a walk or a bike ride. I focus on short term goals, this week, this month, day 100...I ask myself where I want to be down the road on my birthday in 2007, I focus on the many places I can read here. I focus on the water I have yet to drink. I focus on living my life again with the energy and vitality that had been missing... I stay away from anything that would trigger a craving, or trigger discouragement. I focus on the plan of the day, based on where I am going. I do all of this on purpose, success is not an accident, it's planned for. I pull out clothes that are now too big and I pull out my favorite old clothes, I put them on hangers and hang them out where I can see them... I stay away from what will trigger negatives, and I focus on the positives... The scales just went away for 2 weeks, for the challenge, I was using them to see what my baseline was and what I did every day for a month, I eventually had to put them away, too many ups and downs and it triggered discouragement for me. See, I want to be here for a very long time, and I cannot afford to allow discouragement to rob my new found habits. My success is not going to be an accident, it's going to happen on purpose over a course of months, because this is what I want. Please stay away from anything that would make you want to quit, it's not worth it if the scales are troubling you...think lifestyle not weight!!!! Hang in there, you are going to look amazingly beautiful as you slim down, and so am I, one day! So am I
