| You don't need to count calories, but calories do matter. Dr. Atkins hoped that we would be able to self-regulate our food intake due to the natural appetite-suppressing quality of ketosis/lipolysis. So he advise us to eat only that amount that satisfies our hunger, but don't gorge on food. So no, you don't need to count calories, as long as you listen to your body and eat only the amount that satisfies your hunger.
