Exclamation Ice Cream..no..no..

Well I found a reciped for induction friendly ice cream. I added a little chocolate protein powder to it and cinnamon and boy was it good...too good...I made another serving and ate that too which made me go over in carbs a little....I think it made me more hungry and wanting to eat....should stay away from it right?

Oh yeah,

Just heavy cream...
Splenda...
Vanilla extract...
Cinnamon...
Small scoop of chocolate protein....

(just in case you wanted to know...I froze it in a container and it came out really creamy after I let it melt just a little and stirred)

Stay far far away. Many of us have trigger foods that cause us to overeat. I can eat cream cheese with out a problem. If I bake it into a cheesecake I will eat it all. This is all about learning what foods trigger our over eating or cravings.

Also I dont know what is in your Protein powder but it probably isnt safe for induction

I am going to the store today to buy carb free protein powder...I wasn't sure but it did seem like it tasted to good to be safe.....I think it has two carbs per big scoop and it says 1g sugar..which is a no right? Wow, there is alot of stuff out there that is so misleading! Thanks!

You should avoid the powder all together.

Oh I thought it was ok....It is called for in some induction recipes....hmm...if you are refering it to be a trigger food...I think it was the ice cream it self. That was my addiction before (and cookies) I started atkins....so when I made it, it was sooo much like real ice cream to me that I think I wanted to binge..think it was a mental thing....not for sure though.

It might be the splenda--I have subtle problems with it myself, so I've basically cut it out altogther--I use stevia instead, and quite rarely. Splenda makes me want more and more sweetness--maybe not at that exact moment, but it makes me want to create a pattern of eating something sweet everyday, which of course would be a huge problem and ultimately my downfall. It's the cephalic insulin response...even though I'm not eating real sugar, my brain gets confused and thinks the sweet taste of splenda IS real sugar...and releases insulin anyway. Not everyone has problems with it, but I certainly do!

Yes, I would stay away from the ice cream either indefintely or at least until you're out of induction and feel you have cravings/portion control issues well in hand.

Walk away from the freezer (she says in a menacing tone of voice!)

But seriously I had the same problems, made ice cream at home (just heavy cream and splenda in my case) and boy was it a mistake - all my triggers came out to play so I haven't made it since!

A few things to consider:

1. Heavy cream is limited during Induction. For daily amounts, it's 2-3 tablespoons (Beverage subsection Induction Acceptable Foods list, Ch 11, DANDR 2002). It is also listed as a Special Category food) with a listed amount of 3 fluid ounces (Induction Acceptable Food list, Ch 11, DANDR 2002). Special Category foods are "special" because they might cause some people to slow down or not lose weight and might need to be avoided. 3 fluid ounces is about 1/3 cup.
Heavy cream contains carbs. Depending on the carb counter and depending on the brand of cream, it has 0.4 to 1 carb per tablespoon. So 1/3 cup has about 5 net carbs.

2. Artificial sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

3. Vanillla extract and cinnamon contain carbs.

So look at the recipe and see if the food is Induction 'legal' per serving size. It's a common mistake for newbies to read a recipe requiring 1/2 cup or 1 cup of heavy cream, eat the entire amount then wonder why it wasn't 'legal' for Induction.

Yea, It will be a problem for induction. Hard to squeeze the carbs in. But, I have had huge problems with LC Ice Cream when I buy the half gallon. I cannot control my intake. Half Gallon = half day supply!! Not quite. Now I frequently eat a serving of LC Ice Cream that is home made. It is very similar to what you prepared though I have a tiny battery powered Ice cream freezer that I use. No cravings. So I think you might want to consider your home made Ice cream for later. But if it causes cravings etc. you don't want it.
