Default but can I eat THIS on induction

No, I don't have a strange preoccupation with soy HOWEVER, I have two questions:

1) Since everyone's been saying I can eat Tofu and Shatakari on induction, is a logical conclusion to draw that I can also eat roasted soy nuts? (in small servings of course). They only have 2g of net carbs per 1oz, but I have some hesitation and I want to get formal approval from here first.

2) Everyone's been saying it's ok to eat tofu and soy but then howcome they're ALL the way on rung SEVEN? I mean, they're not even rung 1....you know? Can someone reconile that for me?

Soy beans are legumes and properly belong on the legume rung of the On-Going Weight Loss Phase.

Tofu is made from soy beans. Basically, the beans are crushed with water. The solids are strained out. The result is soy milk, which has a considerable amount of carbs. The soy milk is then treated with a chemical that coagulates the soy proteins. The coagulates soy milk is pressed to remove the excess water/liquid and the result is tofu. Therefore, tofu is primarily soy protein, unlike the soybeans or soy milk which are combinations of soy protein and soy carbs/starches.

Since tofu is primarily soy protein, it is acceptable for Atkins Induction.

Shiritake noodles are made from a root vegetable. Its carbohydrate is primarily an indigestible plant fiber, so its impact on your blood glucose is similar to that of psyllium husk---nearly zero---because this fiber is not absorbed by your body. It also has 0 nutrients.

BUT both tofu and shiritake noodles can still contain non-fiber carbs and those need to be counted towards your daily carb total.

As I wrote in your other threads, you need to look at the serving sizes and determine the carbs. According to Dr. Pescatore, limit the shiritake to one serving.

I realize you are a vegetarian and your Induction menues are very limited at this point. So my suggestion to you is to move to On-Going Weight Loss phase on Day 15 so you can increase the variety of your menu. Contrary to popular belief, On-Going Weight Loss Phase does not mean your weight loss will slow or stall. On the contrary, OWLers generally experience improved weight loss rates.

I completely agree with Megs and I do eat a lot of vegetarian meals and when you progress on this you do continue to loose weight ...plus the added bonus of getting to the seeds and nuts rung will free you up to eat lots more high protein choices...

take your time but don't get stuck in induction mode .

I forgot to add...

Even if you aren't vegetarian, don't get stuck in the Induction phase. Heidi and I eat a wide variety of foods so boredom is not an issue plus we get alot of vitamins, minerals and fiber from those foods.
