Default Sugar alcohols, yes or no?

I have read everything in the book and on this site about sugar alcohols, and I was wondering what everyones take is on it. Should it be deducted or not? I noticed it had no effect at all on my Blood Sugar.
So whats is everyones thoughts on it? YEs or No?

I think that during induction it should be avoided. I've read that it affects everyone differently.

Good Luck!

I agree, it effects everyone differently but I stay away from it. Any sugar....is sugar! Especially during induction!

My take on this is - if it gives you the 'bathroom effect' you are probably justified in deducting the carbs of sugar alcohols but if you can eat them without discomfort you need to count the carbs as your body is processing them as normal carbs.

I would try to avoid them in induction, until you are really on the higher rungs of OWL or in premaintenance. If you hit a stall they are one more thing that can be the cause of it. Sweet foods can also cause cravings for other sweets, so in the beginning you're probably best to stay away.

I do eat them in moderation but I do have the digestive effects of them. I can usually only eat half of a serving of whatever it is.

I would definately wait until later.

I do also count all of the carbs in them, I don't trust their counts.

This is one of those areas where you will find a lot of differening opinions. Truth is, it is best for your weight loss AND your health to eat as much REAL, NATURAL food as is possible. It's really not great to trade high carb junk food for supposedly low carb junk food. Your body will thank you.

Now, have I ever eaten that stuff? Sure. Would I ever make it a habit? Nope. Bottom line - it's just like water vs. other drinks...if you are drinking a lot of other things besides water then your water consumption will be reduced...same with the sugar alcohol foods - for every bit of that you eat, you're not eating some healthful, nutritious alternative - and that's not a good trade off, in my opinion.

Thank you all for your opinions, it really didnt have much of an effect on me at all. But I was constipated until this morning..maybe thats what finally got me moving again. I sure know it was a relief.
I have been bouncing between induction and OWL, still not yet sure how I am going to get my CCL because my weight loss has been so slow. But I am loosing inches. I try to keep my carbs between 20 and 30 because it seems to be working a little.
I am adding other foods, like the Low carb ice cream, I added pumpkng and peppers, and some Collard greens to my menu and I havnt noticed any changes.
I really dont like my metobolic response tho..lol..its too too slow.
