Default Bad night

Just having a bad night and wanting to post about it.

Tonight I couldn't decide what to eat for dinner. I was getting hungry, it was a little past my 6 hours without food, and I was desperately searching for something good to eat on the recipe board. I finally settled on the chicken enchilada casserole recipe I ran to the store, grabbed ingredients, came home, and started making it. The recipe calls for Taco Seasoning .. so I grabbed our bottle of McCormicks Taco Seasoning, sprinkled a liberal dash over it, and threw it in the oven. I was busy getting a bath ready for the babies, and it was only after I had drawn the bath that I checked the label for the taco seasoning and realized that it contained sugar (1g of carbs from sugar). Doing so well on this diet, I knew I couldn't eat it, and there was a dinner that had to go in the garbage (my wife won't eat anything spicy including the green chile sauce).

Next, I pulled my bag of chicken wings out of the fridge and noticed that they too have 1g of sugar carbs .. well those were out. Finally I settled on a cup of broccoli w/ butter, turkey italian sausage, and 3/4 cup of green peppers.

After dinner I treated myself to a splenda diet rite (which I only have every other night). And then I sat down and plotted my dinner in fitday, only to realize that I was at 19g carbs for the day which is a little too close for comfort in case I measured something wrong, and that wasn't counting the diet rite

Sorry to hear you had such a rough end to the day

When I started induction I found that unless I planned ahead for each day's menus I had times like that, so you are not alone.

Are you counting 'net carbs' (total less fibre)?

Actually i'm not .. I figure if i try for just 20 grams carbs total that i'll always be within my goal

So that leaves me at 15g net carbs for yesterday, not bad. But I was dark purple yesterday on the ketostix (i gave in and bought some), and today i'm slightly darker than the light purple, so i've dropped a little, but i'm not worried.

Yes, planning meals is a good thing, i'm already looking at the low carb deep dish recipe for tonite, just trying to figure out pizza sauce.

umm.. you should always subtract fiber... That way when you get to the veggies rung you won't be completely freaking out.

Ummm.. I guess maybe I have this view since I would have still eaten the dinner since a dash of something that contains 1g carbs for a serving (what *was* the serving size anyway), and I eat buffalo wings a lot...

Anyway, I'm sorry you had a rough night. Planning meals is definitely a life saver... for the ketostix, as long as you're a colour, you're great... if you're dark purple it usually means that you need to be drinking more water actually....

Dr Atkins tells us to count net carbs in DANDR, so that is what I do.

I agree with Lyssie, I would not have thrown out the food based on a trace amount of sugar...if it really concerned me I wouldn't have had it again, but I would never throw it out for such a small amount. I don't think the 1g of sugar in the taco seasoning would have had much affect on you.

the chicken wings that I eat have 2g's of carbs per serving of 5 wings, and I have been eating them since beginning this woe without issue. I just make sure it is in my daily totals.
