Default not so noobsicle

Hi all! I started induction yesterday, again. I did Atkins once in middle school, and once or twice in high school. I also tried it a few years back, but one day, we were out and about, and we ended up at Cracker Barrel, which is carb overload. I fell out of ketosis, and I that was that.

So, a few questions.

1. Last time I was on induction, I dreamt about carbs every night. I dreamt about Pizza Hut, and sandwiches. I was miserable. Has anyone else had this issue? Anything help?

2. I live in a house with three other people, one of which is an Atkins hater, one of which is an ice cream-a-holic, and one of which doesnt really care one way or another. Any advice on how to stick with it while surrounded with all of this temptation?

I need help. Im really serious about it this time, and I want to get over the cravings so it will have a chance to work. I have about 150 pounds to lose.

So far, two days, and doing well.

-Michelle

Michelle, welcome to ADBB.

It's about making YOU a priority. The best advice I can give you is to forget everything you THINK you know about Atkins, and get a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution copyright 2002. Read it. Learn about how and why this plan works. Learn how to do it the right way so those cravings and dreams will quit TORMENTING you and making you fat and miserable. If you've read the book before, FORGET everything you THINK you remember and read it again.

There is plenty of other advice we can give you as you go along on your journey...but that will be the absolute best advice I can give you. It'll also give you the ammunition you'll need to fight the battle with YOURSELF, your addiction to carbohydrates and with your roomies and any other "Atkins haters" that you'll run into.

In the meantime, read all the stickies in this forum to get you started. Also take a visit down to the Frequently asked Questions forum, there's lots of stuff down there to read.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but for me, whenever I feel tempted, I stop to ask myself if this treat is worth not being thin again. I want to be my old healthy, lean self so much more than I want any snack. The snack is only one moment in time. The sense of accomplishment and pride I'll feel when I lose my weight will last forever.

oh, and I dream of being able to shop for clothes without hating how I look in every thing. I want that so much more than I want anymore ice cream.

I hope that helps. Keep your eye on the prize. Good luck! You can do this.

Hi and welcome!

I'd say always keep a high fat snack to hand for when the cravings hit, or when your housemates have a carb fest right there in front of you.
Keep focused on your goal and imagine how you'll feel when you reach it. I can assure you that when you get there, you'll feel even better than you thought you would.

Hi Michelle, glad you joined us. You've made a good step in coming back to this WOE, You can do this, just takes some determination. Don't worry you don't have to give up eating out, I eat in resturaunts frequently, you just have to know your plan and make your choices wisely. You can do this, just have to want it bad enough!
