Default Fell off the wagon last night!! Need a little help/reassurance please!

Hi everyone

Well after 9 very clean induction days, I stuffed it up last night!!

Hubby and I went out for a valentines day meal...I had it all planned...

Prawn salad for starter

Steak with salad and veg for main

No dessert

It all seemed so simple until the menu got placed in front of me

Prawn salad...OK

Pan fried pork (GOOD) with black pudding (BAD)...did manage to push the chips (fries) to the side of my plate and fill it up with cabbage instead though!

No dessert????...think again chocolate truffle( basically a chocolate mousse with a white choc truffle on top!) with apricot and white choc ice cream!!
I ate about 1/4 to 1/2 then passed my plate to hubby!

I felt so bad last night after I'd eaten it...the old tiredness was back...I just wanted to flop into bed...and I've not felt like that since about Day 2!!

I guess I just need reassured that I can overcome last nights disaster and get back into ketosis and more importantly back on track with Atkins!!

I'm not even sure whether I'm out of it or not...I'm certainly right back on track this morning and ready to continue with induction...I don't ever want to feel that sluggish or tired again!!

Should I continue with induction past my 14 days to make up for the damage I did last night??

Help please...any advice is most welcome!!

Thanks

Janet

Janet, I can empathise with you totally. I was like that when I first started the plan. I stuck the diet rigidly for 3 weeks and then had a mini collapse on Christmas day with a handfull of miniature heroes (chocolates). I felt like you do now.

However, and I must stress this, in hind sight it was something that added to my resolve and made me even stronger. I felt so guilty having had the chocolate that I never wanted to feel that guilty again. It may sound silly but it stopped me from cheating for the next 2 years! You will get through this and I am sure it will make you a stronger person for it.

I am not of course advocating cheating, but all is not lost.

Thanks Rich

I think it has strengthened my resolve not to cheat...I actually feel more determined today than I have since I started last week...I think that's mostly because of the total lethargy I felt last night after my meal!!

I've felt great on Atkins and after experiencing the way carbs made me feel last night...and remembering that's how I used to feel every night...I really don't ever want to go back to feeling that way!!

At 40 yrs old...and a fairly young 40...my kids see to that!! I was beginning to feel twice my age, the weight of course was a major problem...but the tiredness and sluggishness I felt every day was even worse...I've had a taste of what it feels like not to fill myself with carbs and quite frankly I LIKE IT!!!

So no more cheating for me! I'm on the straight and narrow from now on in!

An update after my disaster...I've been back on track for 2 days and apart from a slight sweet craving after work (which I DID NOT act upon) I've been doing good and feeling good!
I was very upset with myself for cheating...but I thought...there's no point dwelling on it...just have to pick myself up and move forward getting back on plan immediately.
I've cut my carbs right back today and yesterday and will do so again tomorrow before upping them to my usual 15 to 17 g. Weigh in on Monday then I'll decide whether to stick with induction for another week or so or move on to OWL.

Thanks sally...I feel much better about it now...there's no point beating myself up about it...the damage is done and I can't undo it, but I can certainly move forward and not let it destroy my resolve!
I think TOM might have something to do with my sugar cravings...I always ate like a horse around that time before...but I'm managing to control the urges so far!

I can identify with you, for sure! On my 10th day of induction yesterday, I was overcome with totally extreme tiredness (I think it may have been due to many hot days and nights in a row) and a first-time craving for chocolate. So I decided to give in. The chocolate actually tasted horrible - so very, very sweet, sickly and rich. But I still ate it.

Later, I had 2 slices of bread, and a small amount of orange juice (had missed bread and that juice a lot).

This morning, I woke up feeling as heavy as lead!!!! Even worse than yesterday. And with a weight gain of 1 lb. So I decided I WILL go back on Atkins - BUT I desperately wanted a bowl of my favourite cereal I used to have every morning, and milk first. So I had some - and again, the sultanas in it tasted way too sweet!! That was the end of my naughtiness.

Today, I have had 2 large rashers of bacon, 1 slice Swiss Cheese and 1 cup of coffee with small amount of cream. I am definitely staying on this diet, but just had to experience those foods I missed. Now that I have, I know that NONE OF THEM were worth it, or even delicious!

So I've been curious whether to start Induction again, or call today Day 11, or what? But I believe I can stay on Induction for 3 weeks if I want - that's just a guess from things I have read so far in the forums. Amongst all the links and stickies I have to check out today, I will be checking out about that possible 3 week Induction (if there is one - that's what I have to find out for sure)

I feel bad eating my old favourite foods, but because I disliked the sweetness so much, I think in a way it was good, to know I shouldn't even think of them any more as I didn't enjoy them any more!

I fell off too, It's so tuff for me. I'm really trying but man. Eating this way makes me depressed and dread going out and socializing beacuse I can't have a beer or eat what I want. I know that's pathetic but I really feel like this. Will this go away? Am I alone in feeling this way?

Yall aint alone feeling this way, I dont think of it what as I cant have, I think of it what I dont want. I dont want to be overweight, I dont want to be unhealthy, I choose not to drink that beer, instead I'll have a rum and diet, I dont want them chips but I'll sure have some chicken wings.
Think about how good you will feel when you overpower a craving, and wake up in a couple days and notice you lost an inch or a pound.
Yea your friends might look at you like you are crazy now while your eating all that fat, but when they see you 6 months from now, they are going to be saying WOW you look great!!!
So look farther down the road, while you think you are suffering. You are not suffering you are doing what is right for you!!
And this is coming from someone that has only been on the plan a little over a month.
Wait till the seasoned pros come along..lol
