Unhappy Vicious Cycle

I haven't been doing well on Induction, and I am starting over again. One problem is I have been eating Atkins Bars, and drinking shakes. I thought it was okay because on the "Atkins" site it says you can. After reading the boards, and having my weight stop dropping in the second week I know it isn't. They also made me start to want more sweets, and I started feeling hungry again *sigh*. I didn't lose my second week of Induction, probably because of the bars and shakes. I felt so discouraged, and depressed over it all. I was doing so well. I had lost 9 pounds in 7 days, and then another 2 pounds, then went up 2 pounds, then down a pound again...I don't know what's going on. Oh, and I have been drinking diet soda more. I have an inner battle, a vicious cycle And it's making me crazy. I didn't do *terrible* but it wasn't a clean Induction. Oh, and my sugar levels have been really good...REALLY good, and for that I am so thankful. I am getting rid of everything right now, and starting fresh. I'm not going to weigh myself again until the 2 week induction is over so I don't get discouraged. Just thinking about not weighing myself gives me anxiety. I feel alone I really want to do this and I want to do it right. It was hard for me to write this. I just needed to share my feelings somewhere. Thanks for listening to me.

Nicole, don't feel bad! I did the exact same thing, except I wasn't smart enough to catch it in the first week like you were! I would eat a bar, and would want another one immediately after eating it. I ate those dang things for weeks, usually 2 bars and 1 shake per day, and I wondered why the weight wasn't coming off like I thought it should.

So kudos for redoing induction, and doing a clean one! You'll feel SOOOOOOOOOOO much better getting that junk out of your system.

It's good to post thoughts, questions, and menus--you'll be sure to get lots of helpful advice! Best of luck.

Nicole,
You were treating your body better than if you had been feeding it a bunch of high carb junk food, so don't beat yourself up! If you had the determination to stick with it in spite of your challenges with hunger and the scales, then you should feel proud of yourself for that. The next two weeks will be easier.

Also, you should know that your weight loss will not stay at a constant high level as the first week of Induction...see the Sticky Weight Loss is Not Linear. It is very common to have a slow down, especially the second, third, and/or fourth weeks on Atkins. You have to gear yourself up for that mentally.

You've made the right step in coming to this board. Nobody here is trying to sell any products, so there are no claims that they are okay. They're all very helpful and really cheer on your success.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey...keep us all posted!

I'm pretty sure that you will look back on this in six months with a new body, you've already lost ten pounds. Ten pounds is an accomplishment!! I struggled through my induction also but I made it through. I did try to stay off of the scale for most of it though, because the scale does lie. Good luck with your new clean induction!!

You made a very wise decision to ditch the bars and shakes. Good for you! So glad you didn't get caught in that trap too many pounds later, when a substantial gain might've discouraged you from continuing.

Now look to the future. No point stressing about what's done. Think of yourself at goal and how wonderful you'll feel then.
You can do this!!!

Thank you everyone for your support.
It means so much to me.
I have been good today...no bars, no shakes, and no diet soda
I had 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast and 4 slices of bacon. And for lunch I had cubed 1 chicken breast, and mixed it with some mayo (I use Dukes because it has no sugar and no carbs), and a little curry powder which made a nice chicken salad with a little asparagus. I think that is a good day so far on Induction. I read you can have spices (curry powder) on Induction so I hope it was okay to have that. And I heard it was okay to have mayo, but I didn't see it on the list of Induction Foods. I could just be missing it. Anyways, so far so good. Thanks again for all your support. I'll let you know how it goes

Default Re: Vicious Cycle

Spices are ok, mayo is ok. I believe that stuff is on one of the last pages of the foods list, after veggies. I remember seeing a list of spices...let me see if I can find it for you.

Quote:
Spices
All spices to taste, but make sure none contain added sugar.

Herbs
basil
garlic
rosemary
cayenne pepper
ginger
sage
cilantro
oregano
tarragon
dill
pepper
thyme
For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.

Acceptable Fats and Oils
Many fats, especially certain oils, are essential to good nutrition. Olive oil is particularly valuable. All other vegetable oils are allowed, the best being canola, walnut, soybean, grapeseed, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils, especially if they are labeled "cold-pressed" or "expeller-pressed." Do not cook polyunsaturated oils, such as corn, soybean and sunflower oil, at high temperatures or allow to brown or smoke.
Here's the rest of that thread here:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781 (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)

If you're ever curious about if a food is legal on induction, check it's ingredients to see if THOSE are legal. The ingredients in mayo are basically egg and oil, and both of those are acceptable. Good for you for using Dukes...I think that's the only stuff out there w/out added sugar.

Sounds like you're doing a great job!

Thank you so much for all that info Julie
I will keep in mind to look at the labels to see if ingredients are induction friendly.
I appreciate all your help
Oh, and I can eat Flax Meal right? As a laxative? Can I use it for breakfast like a minute muffin?

Yup, flax meal can be used for constipation issues, and you're limited to 1 or 2 tbsp per day...you'd have to double-check that amount. There's a recipe for mock danish that's really good...

Hey Nicole, Hang in there girl! Juli is a pro, she can answer any question....
Girl keep working it out, the alternative is leaving the Atkins diet, and probably regaining the weight, and certainly you won't find another diet where you can eat the enjoyable foods we do and still loose weight at the rate we do...
As hard as this sounds, be patient with yourself. Patience wins big time in the way of life...It's gonna take a while to loose alot of weight, and reality is, we NEED time, all the time to learn new ways of coping without using food. I know after I have gotten the next 30lbs off, I will have a great desire to keep it off, not see it inch back on...
Think lifestyle, take your time, learn how you body works with Atkins like you have this week seeing how it didn't respond well to the shakes and bars. Also know weight loss does slow down a bit right after induction. It's like your body takes a breather...then get's going again.
Are you able to begin a walking or exercise program? When we exercise, it naturally surpresses our appetite for alittle while too....
Good luck nicole, hang in there girllll...really stick with it, find your way!
