| Oh man...I know what you mean. I have an Aunt that thinks she is the authority on what is healthy and what isn't in the "Diet" world. When I lost 50 on Atkins she really tried to put the scare in me to stop doing Atkins...I have a hard time listening to her though because she is VERY overweight and is a Diet Yo Yo'er...she tries all the NEW ones that comes out and gives up just as quickly. She did the same thing with Atkins she lost some and then quit and then regained it back and then some...but it was ALL the diet's fault not her own. Just hold our own and take heart that your knowledge gives you the power. lol As for how I am doing? I am doing fantastic...finishing the end of my 1st week and had a loss of 7.4 lbs in 7 days. Praying next week is just as successful! Good luck with your first week!

| Oh that would be annoying. I just go "what ever" to anyone that says Oh thats bad for you, Im like so is being FAT.. I just do what I want and let the non believers worry about there own issues. Im on day 3 and feel great, woke up with a bounce. I got on the scales and saw I put a pound on which freaked me out. But I did drink 3 cans of diet coke last night so Im sure it is all water Im carring. Im not going to weigh myself now until next Thursday which will be a week for me. Its nice to meet some one close in days to me, I cant wait to hear how your doing at the end of induction.

Anyhow, I've never heard of anyone dying or getting sick from Atkins. Look at everyone on this board! You'll get a lot of non-believers, they are simply misinformed. Just stick to your guns! If she continues to tell you Atkins is dangerous, maybe tell her to see how you're doing in 6 months...and you can even get a doc's checkup to prove you're quite healthy (if you're due for one).

| I have actually avoided telling people I'm doing Atkins for the most part because of the negative way of thinking that surronds this WOL by many people. I only just started and don't want to debate the WOL with anyone right now. When I've lost a lot of weight and look much better than I'll be more willing to spill the beans and take them on in an arguement. As for how I'm doing and where I am...I'm on day 8 of inducation and have seen a 14 pound loss so far. Can't tell me this diet doesn't work or is now good |

We're only allowed 3 servings of sweetener a day and 3 cans puts you about triple that amount. Sorry! |

| Dont woory...they are not the same. I am a nurse and there is nothing wrong with being in ketosis. Read this : Ketosis should not be confused with ketoacidosis, which is severe ketosis causing the pH of the blood to drop below 7.2. Ketoacidosis is a medical condition usually caused by diabetes and accompanied by dehydration, hyperglycemia, ketonuria and increased levels of glucagon. The high glucagon, low insulin serum levels signals the body to produce more glucose via gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis and ketogenesis. High levels of glucose causes the failure of tubular reabsorption in the kidneys, causing water to leak into the tubules in a process called osmotic diuresis, causing dehydration and further exacerbating the acidosis.

| If your sis is telling you those are the same......hmm I am sorry to say that I would be scared for her to be my nurse. Here is more info: The diet prescribes foods high in fat, and heavily restricts carbohydrate intake. As fats become the body's primary source of metabolic energy, ketones accumulate in the brain, which can alleviate epileptic symptoms. The diet is often perceived as more effective in children than adults, particularly when anticonvulsant drug therapy is ineffective (20%-30% of patients) or contraindicated, however, data from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as recently, shows similar results. However, the ketogenic diet is more restrictive for adults. Foods used in the diet include high-triglyceride dairy products (e.g., butter, cream), mayonnaise and peanut butter. Carbohydrates, found in breads and starches, are eliminated in the diet, and liquid and calorie intake are often restricted as well in order to aid ketone accumulation. Though superficially similar, this is not the same as the Atkins diet. This has been used as well for some patients with epilepsy, as well as a low-glycemic index diet. [1] Possible long-term side effects of the diet include:
